May 8: Sunrise Dance Party

Lizzy’s brings you the best of both worlds with this sunrise dance party, yoga session and breakfast buffest. Enjoy two and a half hours of great music and some beautiful skies for an atypical way to break up your week.

May 9: Explosions in the Sky

New Noise proudly presents a night with the iconic instrumental band Explosions in the Sky. They’re passionate and powerful, equal parts romance and tragedy, with beautiful melodies that ignite, turning into head-spinning walls of noise. Easily one of the most intense live bands to take the stage in recent years, their sound proves to be every bit as triumphant as their name implies.

May 10: 90s Pub Quiz

Calling all 90s lovers. Friday, May 10 night will see a quiz covering all things of that decade at The Camel. RMB150 gets you entry to the quiz along with a fish & chips, chicken parma or pesto pasta, plus a drink. As always, there will be great prizes on offer, and if all that is not enough, it will be happy hour for the duration!

May 10: Phill Jupitus

Phill Jupitus began his performing career in 1984, when he quit working in a job center to become a performance poet, rising to prominence supporting such artists as Billy Bragg, The Style Council, and The Housemartins. In the 90s, his poetry turned into comedy, and Jupitus started performing at stand-up gigs all over London and the UK, going on to earn himself a Time Out award in 1994. Jupitus became a familiar face with his big TV break in 1996, when he became a regular team captain on BBC2’s Never Mind The Buzzcocks, and now he's bringing all of that jazz through to Shanghai.

May 11: Industrial Injection

Inferno's brought back Industrial Injection for a second time 'round. Expect a night of cold heavy murderous machinaphile industrial music all night long at Shanghai's most famous metal bar.

May 11: Totally Rad

Let’s face it, kids, modern life is rubbish. So Dada’ takin’ back to a time when Terminators and Gremlins lit up the silver screen, Knightrider was the best show around and things were… like...TOTALLY RAD! They’re throwing a monthly party of 80s jams, synth, Italo disco and all the nostalgia-inducing tunes you could ask for, so suit up (track suit, that is) and get ready to dance.

May 10-12: Beernanza

Beernanza! A three-day extravaganza dedicated to all things beer. This'll be the sixth time Bevex organizes Shanghai's biggest beer festival in the Okura Garden Hotel. It's a must for fans of the hoppy nectar. There'll be something like 150 different craft and premium beers from China and the world present, with 45 music groups playing across three live music stages, and a bunch of prizes to win at games and competitions. Plus chances to brew your own beer and the Bear Olympics, hosted by the giant stuffed bears running around during the event.

May 10-12: Jing'an World Coffee Culture Festival

Coffee lovers rejoice! The Shanghai Jing’an World Coffee Culture Festival is headed back to town this summer. Expect to sample goods from the best coffee brands, snack on delectable desserts and creative dishes, shop for one-of-a-kind goods, groove to jazz and electronic music, marvel at art installations and listen to cultural talks. Oh, and drink lots of coffee while you're at it!

May 11-12: Blackout Comedy "All of Creation"

Do you love your mom? Well, Blackout Comedy does, too! Their fourth edition “Of All Creation” is a special salute to women that brought us into this world. Join Blackout Comedy’s Erica Switzer, Dan Roman and Clemon Courtney with visiting comics Serge (Wuhan) and Mac (Beijing), not to mention anot unnamed special guest who will grace the stage. They’ll have happy hour specials and delicious food all night, so there’s plenty to keep you entertained this weekend.

May 12: Affordable Art Market

If you like art but don’t necessarily want to spend a bazillion dollars on it, swing by Jiashan Market this weekend for the Affordable Art Market. They’ll be showcasing 15 different artists from around the city, including print studio Idle Beats, with food and drink available for purchase.
