Who says that going vegan means you need to switch to a dull diet of rabbit food? Vegans of Shanghai is here to prove that’s not the case. Sign up now for a celebration of all things vegan with MeatFest, a festival of plant-based meat alternatives. MeatFest will be held on Saturday, April 27 from 11am-6pm.
If you’re an environmentally conscious gourmet, don't miss the chance to come and sample the wide range of possibilities offered by a plant-based diet.
Explore a variety of stalls run by plant-based entrepreneurs, established brands and mainstream chefs during a day of gastronomic pleasures. The festival is perfect for winning over members of the family who aren’t quite sold in the vegan lifestyle (yet), or simply try it out for yourself.
You and your friends may be surprised to learn that plant-based meats have been around in China for much longer than you think! Tofu, the ubiquitous meat substitute, was invented during the Han dynasty and is now popular around the world. Since then, China has had a long history of meat alternatives.
MeatFest seeks to continue this tradition and promote modern Chinese companies that distribute their creations around the world. There are already several established companies that do so, and they are looking to expand their message. Hear about the stories and aspirations of the young entrepreneurs shaking up the food industry with their culinary innovations and find out more about the history of meatless ‘meat’ in China.
The entry fee is RMB50. If you want to get involved as a volunteer, the organizers would love to have your help! Just text MEATFESTVOLUNTEER to the official WeChat account of the organizers (ID: vegansofshanghai).
