Jan 18: Project [LX 0991]
Flyer courtesy of Le Baron
Alright, so hot take right here - we're pretty attached to our phones. It's a thing. But it's a thing Li-Ning is hoping to counter for a night. Le Baron's putting on some kind of audio-visual experience to pull you out of your screen and onto the dance floor. A bold task, but we're into the project, so if you are to best to check it out. Don't forget, if you haven't booked a table you'll probably want to get there before midnight. No shorts, boys.
Jan 18, 10pm, no cover. Le Baron, see event listing.
Jan 18-19: That Funk Show
Flyer courtesy of InkSight Group
Because we believe that a healthy dose of funk is good for the soul: get up. Get into it! Shake brings the floor-filling funk for their first big concert of 2019. Courtney Knott and the full band take you on a voyage of music by James Brown, Parliament, Marvin Gaye, Prince and many more. Big horns, bigger grooves and downbeats heavier than a '75 Cadillac. Fix up, look sharp and get down. Dinner from 6pm, music from 10.30pm. Late set by Tony Hall on Friday, and Matt Cooper on Saturday.
Jan 18-19, 10.30pm, RMB100. Shake, see event listing.
Jan 19: Shanghai Soul Club
Flyer courtesy of Specters
The new Specters is up and running - seven days a week this time around! They're back, and bigger, with booths and stuff, but they're giving you the perfect excuse to check out the new space by putting on another night of soul for you bbs. Drinks are still cheap, music's still good and people are still actin' a fool.
Jan 19, 9pm, no cover. Specters, see event listing.
Jan 19: House of Underground
Flyer courtesy of the promoter
Okay, so the flyer is a little pixelated, but they've got a decent line up and who doesn't love a little Saturday house party? Head on over to Donghu Lu for a night of deep tracks and bass.
Jan 19, 9pm, no cover. CAZA, see event listing.
Jan 19: Bailo
The New York based producer Bailo is one of the most promising names in trap and dubstep. Having rocked the streets of Shanghai last year, there's no telling what's in store when he returns to Arkham on Saturday with special guest Warz.
Jan 19, 10pm, RMB120-200. Arkham, see event listing, buy tickets.
Jan 25: Chromeo

Something to look forward to/book in advance - this electro-funk duo from Montreal was formed in 2002 by musicians David 'Dave 1' Macklovitch and Patrick 'P-Thugg' Gemayel. With a sound that draws from blue-eyed soul, dance music, rock, synth-pop, disco and funk, many of the duo's songs have become dance floor favorites. Later this month, they'll land in Shanghai for a show filled with groovy synth tones, vintage drum machines and good vibes.
Jan 25, 10pm, RMB180 pre-sale, RMB240 door. Arkham, see event listing, buy tickets.
