Jan 14: Osteria Chefs Collaboration Dinner

If  you missed the amazing Oysterlicious Chef Charity Dinner last weekend, there are still spaces available at this week's chef collaboration dinner hosted by Osteria. Group executive chef Elijah Holland will be joined by Christopher Taylor (Osteria) and Canadian guest chef Matt Dean Pettit for a five-course meal with wine pairing. Wood roasted quail and lobster shrimp ceviche are just two of the delicious courses on offer.

Jan 15-17: The Sukhothai Bangkok Celebrity Chef David Tamburini Pop-up Event

This month, The Sukhothai Shanghai welcomes Executive Chef David Tamburini (of their sister hotel in Bangkok) to Shanghai for the first time, treating discerning diners a three-day culinary experience at La Scala. Expect signature dishes from the legendary Bangkok restaurant featuring seasonal ingredients and modern Italian culinary techniques. Choose from either a six-course dinner (with optional wine pairings) or three-course lunch and discover why La Scala at The Sukhothai Bangkok  has been praised as "the best Italian restaurant outside of Italy."

Jan 16: Stone Beer University

Do know what ABV, SRM and IBU mean? How about the difference between hops and malt? If your answer to both questions is in the negative, don't despair because you aren't alone. Join a fun group of fledgling beer aficionados and enroll at Stone Beer University. Monthly interactive workshops will hit topics such as beer & food pairings, sour beers and more. 

The inaugural BeerU workshop examines the question "Is Winter Beer Bullshit?" Find out by sampling and comparing winter brews while considering malt presence, alcohol content, flavor profile, etc. Your ticket price includes a handy 10 percent discount on takeaway beer, so you won't fall behind on your homework.

Jan 17: Steven Beerens Guest Shift at Club Room

For an introduction to Finish rye gin, head over to the Club Room (The Shanghai EDITION), where Steven Beerens (Kyro Distillery Company) will be mixing up a number of tasty cocktails on his guest shift.

Jan 18: Yamazaki in El Willy

El Willy is hosting a food and cocktail pairing night! Expect drinks ranging from a 'Yuzu and Sake Coctel' to an 'Islay Bloody Mary' paired with dishes such as seaweed marinated oyster and caviar or a homemade cured & smoked seafood platter. There are six different unique pairings to choose from, so it should be quite the dining experience.

Jan 19: 2019 Chinese New Year Party

Social Supply is putting together a celebration of traditional Spring Festival culture combined with an exhibition of Western humanities and arts. There will be art exhibitions, dumpling classes, Chinese paper cutting workshops and plenty to eat and drink. Doesn't that sound like a great way to meet new friends, learn new skills and appreciate culture? Get your tickets before they sell out.

Jan 19: Long Live the King (Cake)!

Shanghai Young Bakers assists marginalized young Chinese adults who are unable to pursue traditional forms of education. One way to get involved is by joining one of their public or private booked baking classes, and this month they are eager to school you in the ways of baking a King's Cake. Led by Liu Dong (SYB, Marriot Hotel, EFBPa), the class includes lunch and all necessary ingredients.  All proceeds directly fund Shanghai Young Bakers’ programs. You must register ahead of the class.

Jan 19: Galette des Rois Competition

If you are already a master king's cake baker, join in on Campanile Hotel's galette de rois competition. Sign up before midnight on Jan 15 and show up with your best cake for the chance to be crowned 'king' of the king's cake. Don't worry, less experienced bakers will still have access to lessons. There will also be kid's games plus a food and lifestyle market for a full day of family-friendly fun.

Jan 19: Customer Appreciation Day at Abbey Road

Jan 19: Tea and Ceramics

The Pottery Workshop Shanghai is hosting a free tea talk in collaboration with the local Tea Masters at Cha Space in their former French Concession gallery space. The talk will be followed by an optional hands-on demonstration and tea ceremony at Cha Space’s neighboring private tea room.

Learn about the different types of ceramics used in this beautiful – and important – Chinese tradition, and if you fall in love with the cup in your hand, don’t fret! Participants will have the opportunity to buy and take home a curated selection of teas and cups that they learn about.

Until Jan 31: Order Rosca de Reyes from El Luchador

Rosca de Reyes (ring of the kings) is a Spanish and Spanish American King's Cake pastry eaten to celebrate Epiphany. While traditionally enjoyed on January 6,  on Día de Reyes, you can order them from El Luchador Xintiandi until the end of January. Quantities are limited so get those orders in soon.
