The Mansion announced yesterday in a WeChat post that they'll be closing their Hongqiao location at the start of 2019. After a temporary shuttering during the recent CIIE expo, Rainbow Gao, the founder, is said to have proposed the permanent closure in a gesture of respect to the residential community and the police. In the spirit of the mansion - creativity, community and care - it's time to return the favor.
Over the past six years, The Mansion has grown into a venue of international attention, earning a namesake track on Lydmor's most recent album and receiving coverage from a range of media outlets like Sixth Tone. There are talks of a new location and a new project from their team, but nothing has been confirmed as of yet. They'll be throwing a whole mess of parties (that are sure to be a mess) between now and then, including a "Playboy Mansion - Pyjama Party", a "Mansion Hawaii Party" and a "Beach Party - Student f*cking Love Mansion" shindig, so you'll have plenty of excuses to go live it up by Shanghai Zoo. Some tips and tricks to make the most of its time left:
You can bring your own drinks! If you're even a little concerned about where the booze is coming from (or just looking to pinch some pennies), you can sort this one out on your own time.
They have free DJ classes from 10pm-11pm during every party.
They have table games on hand for a little intellectual stimulation.
They have a food truck.
Before 1am, RMB100 for entry gets you five drinks. After 1am, RMB100 gets you three.
The bartenders live there, so if you're looking to take the Metro home the next morning and not trying to dance through to it, you know who to cozy up to.
They're wrapping it all up with a morning, noon and night party on January 11-12, so be sure to hit The Mansion before it's off to find a new home.
