Oct 1: DJ Antipop

Telepopmusik's producer DJ Antipop is one of those rare artists whose music is both hypnotic and edgy. Mixing deep sound and acid, Antipop is at once elegant, immersive and subtle. He doesn't just turn heads, he makes you look twice.

Oct 2: Trivia at The Camel

Hosted by That's Shanghai's very own Ned Kelly, this weekly pub quiz takes you through ten rounds covering everything from current events, history, music, film and more, all for big prizes. This week also sees the start of a new quiz season, so it is the perfect time to join. Starts 8pm.

Future funk, Heatwolves is back with Holograms for a hyperloop journey of city-pop, Chicago house and so much more. Also, that Sailor Moon reference tho.

Oct 2-7: Lena Seikaly: Tribute to Ella Fitzgerald

Washington, DC native and one of the "brightest voices in jazz" is paying tribute to the queen for a week of shows on the Bund. This beautiful venue is one of the best kept secrets in the city, and Lena Seikaly gives you a perfect excuse to go check it out for yourself. She's backed by a trio of American musicians that are only here for a few weeks, so don't miss out on these impeccable artists.

Oct 3: Merty Shango

Everyone may have shipped out for their respective south east Asian yoga retreats, but Dada's still up and running and so is Shanghai's own Come Correct Crew. They've brought New York's own Merty Shango in for a night of hip hop. Straight up. No filler. Thank u guys. More of this, please.

Oct 3: Duñe

Duñe's unique sound combines soul and hip hop, giving you a feeling of flow, a liquid sensation. His voice is tuned to both hard rock rhythms and smooth vibes. Listen.

Oct 3-31: Sleep No More

Have you been to Sleep No More yet? No? Well you should. And if you have had the pleasure, you should go again. This immersive theater experience at the McKinnon Hotel is unlike anything this city has ever seen, and we've been lucky enough to have it for over a year now. It's cool, creepy and the production levels are insane - easily the most impressive adaptation of Macbeth to ever hit the stage. Er, the lobby. To take over an entire building. Jesus, it's good.

Oct 4: The Drifter

The Irish DJ has garnered an international following. His sets are emotive, melodic and mesmerizing, with a sound that'll pull you in like quicksand.

Oct 5: EUPHORIA

Feel infinity! Hear emotions! It's a 'modern update on the spirit of early rave!' Expect visuals, audio and a whole lot of lights from some of our city's favorite DJs.

Oct 11-21: STOMP

STOMP combines dance, comedy and music into a theatrical whirlwind you’ll never forget. This production uses matchboxes, brooms, garbage cans, Zippo lighters and more to create the energizing beats in this full-of-life stage show.

Oct 13: Bruno Major

North London native Bruno Major releases songs in real time as they’re finished. Having recently toured with Sam Smith, he’s now headlining his own show of soulful, alternative R&B music.

Oct 13: Martin Mor

Funny-man Martin Mor is coming to Shanghai Comedy Club for a stand-up set that'll have you in stiches. This former circus performer has traveled the world calling out audience members everywhere he goes. Also his beard is insane.

Oct 13-21: Glengarry Glen Ross

David Mamet's iconic play is back in Shanghai with a new production from DreamWeaver. Their 2014 run was met with nothing but praise from publications across the city, so we have high hopes for this re-vamp. They will be dedicated to the late Paul Collins, whose performance in the original show is still talked about to this day.

Oct 13: Mika Shimauchi Exhibition Opening

The opening of this exhibit showcases works that are impressive, crude, dark and comical. They catalogue the artist's grappling with existential dread in a range of mediums that are worth a gander.

Oct 19-20: Sean Patton

ddThe biggest up-and-coming act out of New York, he's been on Comedy Central and Viceland's Flophouse. He's also got a wild story about a gig that turned into round-about rendezvous in a massive, massive house. With meth.

Oct 18-21: The Best of British

Bringing together all the finest of things from the UK, this cultural showcase includes 150 brands boasting a range of products, experiences and adventures. Whether you’re looking for business opportunities or just to revel in the royal red, white and blue, you’ll want to check out the Shanghai Exhibition Center this month. On Oct 18-19, they’ll be open to trade vendors and VIP ticket holders, while regular ticket holders can pay a visit on Oct 20-21.

Oct 19: Chris Garneau

Combining folk, Americana and pop, this singer songwriter takes influence from the likes of Nina Simone, Jeff Buckley and Nico. His fourth album comes out on November 4, so head to Modern Sky Lab for a chance to see him perform live.

Oct 19-21: Cloud Gate 2: 13 Tongues

After the success of its performance at the prestigious Sadler’s Wells Theatre in London, this Taiwan-based dance troupe has conceived a sequel that salutes the rich street culture of Taipei. Inspired by ‘13 Tongues,’ a pseudonym to a 60s street artist, Cloud Gate’s second installation is packed with a kaleidoscopic of colors, hypnotizing tunes and swirling moves.

Oct 20: Minimalist at Dada

Will A, KSNKST and Matyla are packing in a fresh serving of house, techno and acid for you. In their eighth year of running these parties, they're celebrating with a solid set and maybe even a vodka Redbull. (We have zero confirmation about the last bit, but hey, it's Dada.)

Oct 20: Wednesday Campanella

Wednesday Campanella are hitting China for the first time for their ‘Galapagos Tour.' Alternative, composed, upbeat and very Japanese, this show is going to be a lot of fun.

Oct 23: The Fratellis

Glaswegian garage-rock, post-punk revival band The Fratellis are here to make you feel like a teenager again. With hits like ‘Chelsea Dagger’ and ‘Henrietta,’ you can expect clappable drums and chugging guitars from them.

Oct 23: Sam Smith

If you’re looking for a taste of heartbreak, Sam Smith is stepping in to give you all the feels. This Grammy-winning singer’s soulful hits like ‘Too Good at Goodbyes’, ‘Stay with Me’ and ‘I’m Not The Only One’ will bring you to tears.

Oct 26: Zombie-Chang and Siamese Cats

Known for her electro and lo-fi sound, J-Pop princess Zombie-Chang teams up with Japanese rockers Siamese Cats for a show at Modern Sky Lab.

Oct 27: That's Shanghai Halloween Party

Get ready for one of the freakiest Halloween parties in Shanghai. We're taking over Cages and it's gonna get weird. There'll be a costume competition and lots of drinking, so come hang with us - we're pretty ok people.

Oct 31: Coven

This cabaret in the McKinnon is hands down one of the wildest ways you can spend Halloween. Don your whitest whites for the wake of Agnes Sampson - the woman (or witch...?) who attempted to assasinate King James. An extension of Sleep No More, there will be free drinks, dance, lots of gorgeous costumed people and DJs. We're already itching with excitement (and a mild case of hives because that ish is creepy af and we're about it).
