More straight hip hop from Le Baron. Based here in China, B-Kut's probably one of the only DJs playing the genre (RIP Monkey) - as always, best to head before midnight if you haven't booked a table. No shorts, boys.

Sep 20, 10pm, no cover. Le Baron, see event listing.

Sep 20: A$AP TyY

The A$AP mob are back again - this time with TyY here to leave his mark on this city. This Harlem native drives an ATV around the city streets, and now he's bringing his bad ass boyishness to Arkham for a hip hop set that'll have you leaving covered in sweat.

Sep 20, 10pm, RMB200 door. Arkham, see event listing.

Sep 21: Martin Garrix

This 22-year-old DJ has a net worth of 22 million dollars. That's a million dollars for every year of his life. The DJ and producer has taken every major stage in the last few years - from Ultra to Creamfields to Coachella - and with blowout tracks like "Scared to be Lonely", we can only assume that his set's going to be a good one.

Sep 21, 10pm, RMB380. MYST, see event listingbuy tickets.

Sep 21: Tiësto

Tiesto.jpg

EDM fans will have a tough choice to make this Friday. Tiësto is a legend, having been making music for over 20 years. He's considered the Godfather of the genre by many, and has worked with artists like Tegan & Sarah, Calvin Harris, Nelly Furtado and a whole lot more.

Sep 21, 10pm, RMB380-480. TAXX, see event listingbuy tickets.

Internationally acclaimed reggae artist Mr. Williamz is coming to Shanghai. We're talkin' dance hall, drum n' bass, anthems and good times. He's got a host of local DJs supporting him, so come on out to West Bund if you're lookin' for something different than your average weekend night,

Sep 21, 10pm, RMB100. Lofas, see event listing.

Sep 21, 1am, RMB100 includes one drink. Celia, see event listing.

Shanghai's favorite dive bar is doing it again. Get ready for a messy night of Aretha, The Black Lips, Buddy Holly and more. Rock, punk, soul and Beer Lao are at the ready, with Murphy's on tap and dangerously cheap shots all night long. Sacco from Uptown Records N' Beer is playing alongside tall guy and man of local importance Morgan Short. They've also got a soul night on Saturday.

Sep 21, 9pm, no cover. Specters, see event listing.

Sep 22: Shanghai Soul Club

If you haven't checked out the former home of Tour yet (in United Valley), here's a good reason to. The bar upstairs still sports its refreshing outdoor seating, and what used to be the Magnolia Room is now a hotline bling-styled dance space. This weekend you can catch DJ duo MLE & OLSEN and special guest of the night DJ SCHAFF.

Flying in from San Francisco, DJ Ozone has brought his records with him for an OG vinyl set. Eighties synth-pop, Italo disco, post-punk, old school hip hop and electro, he's got it all. And he lets the songs play through. Like, the whole song. No remixing. Just good music and lots of dancing. What a time to be alive.

Member of XXL's Freshman Class, one of Billboard's "10 Hottest MCs of Latin Descent in Hip Hop Today" and star of several Sprite commercials (alongside Vince Staples, Lil Yachty and a crew of other hip hop artists), Kap G at Le Baron is going to be another one for the books. Seriously, they're stepping up to fill the hip hop hole in the scene. We, for one, are greatful.
