Losing your passport is a nightmare that all expats and travellers fear when in a foreign city. But the experience is even more complicated for those in China where the loss of a passport is compounded by the loss of that all-important Chinese visa. However, this situation is set to become slightly less stressful for foreigners residing in Shanghai, as the city recently implemented a new ‘faster visa service’ for those unlucky individuals who lose their passports, Shine reports.
The new expedited visa service began on September 1 and enables foreigners who lose their passports in Shanghai to get their applications for an urgent visa completed in just seven days or less by a new department located in the Shanghai Exit-Entry Administration Bureau.
The new service is not only restricted to those who lose their passports. Members of foreign tourist groups – who must obtain an additional visa to leave the group to go home or deal with an emergency situation abroad – are also eligible.
For anyone requiring the service, all applications should be sent to the Shanghai Entry-Exit Administration Bureau, which is located on the third floor of 1500 Minsheng Lu in Pudong New Area.
