Shanghai SIPG claimed a 2-0 win over Shanghai Shenhua in the Shanghai Derby at Shanghai Stadium on Saturday night with a wonder goal from Wu Lei.
After a quiet first half, the game came to life in the 52nd minute when a clipped Oscar free kick into the box was smashed home with an exquisite first time volley – over his shoulder and on the turn – from Wu.
It was the 26-year-old's 14th goal in 16 Chinese Super League games this season, making him top scorer in the CSL, one goal ahead of Guangzhou R&F's Israeli striker Eran Zahavi. Hulk then sealed the victory with a penalty in the 74th minute, after being bundled to the ground in the box.
The win leaves SIPG in third place in the Chinese Super League on 33 points, three points behind leaders Beijing Guoan with a game in hand. Shanghai Shenhua lie in 7th with 23 points.
Shanghai SIPG play Guanzhou R&F on Wednesday, August 15 at 6pm at Shanghai Stadium. Shanghai Shenhua play Guizhou at Hongkou Stadium at 8pm the same night.
