PHOTOFAIRS Shanghai is an annual fall exhibition that showcases the best of contemporary photography worldwide in Shanghai.
A platform for artists who have been pushing the boundaries of the medium within the fair’s 50 Chinese and international galleries this year, PHOTOFAIRS Shanghai 2018 will showcase classic works of photography alongside contemporary work that combines photography, sculpture, installation and video.

The centerpiece of this year's exhibit is curator Victor Wang's reinterpretation of The Same But Also Changed (物是人非), a 1999 exhibit in Shanghai that was preemptively shut down before its debut. The Same But Also Changed aimed to challenge ideas about contemporary art and featured several artists who are now seminal members of China's contemporary art scene.

Wang's reinterpretation of this theme, called Insights, will feature works from a few of these same artists, including Geng Jiangyi, Liang Yue and Chen Xiaoyun. It will also showcase the latest generation of leading Chinese artists, with a site-specific installation of post-it notes by Xu Zhen, stills from Yang Fudong's film Seven Intellectuals in a Bamboo Forest (pictured at top), and a sculptural work by Miao Ying called 'Content Aware' that comments on internet censorship.
