Unfortunately, it's going to be hot and smoggy this week. On Monday afternoon, the city experienced a sudden spike in the Air Quality Index (AQI) when the figure rose to 133. This subsequently triggered a blue alarm according to the new air pollution alert system.
At the time of writing, the AQI is hoving around 140. In this case, children, the elderly and those with heart and lung diseases are advised to stay indoors while other citizens should limit outdoor activities.
Fortunately, the hot weather and air pollution may be washed away by showers starting next Wednesday, as forecasted by Weather Channel. At the same time, the rise in humidity may bring on the plum rain season. Last year, Shanghai entered the plum rain season on June 19.
