Chinese New Year is drawing near, which means you probably have a heap of festive events going on. Naturally, you'll need a way to get from Point A to Point B and DiDi’s handy car-hailing app is here to help!
Now that the app is available in English, you'll be able to book your next trip without a hitch. With several ride options to choose from — Taxi, Express (cheaper), Premier (fancier) and Luxury (luxurious) — DiDi's bilingual service lets you easily and instantly find a driver in 400 cities around China! And it's not just for Chinese phones either; the app supports mobile numbers registered in up to 22 regions and countries, including Australia, Brazil, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, the US and UK.
Unfortunately, with the arrival of the holidays, all-day demand for transport will surge across major cities in mainland China and many DiDi drivers are expected to take a CNY break from work.
To address this seasonal demand-supply gap, DiDi recently announced three new programs that will be implemented between February 8 and 21. Below, we share with you the nitty-gritty details:
1. Dynamic Pricing Suspension, ‘Queuing’ Goes National
Dynamic pricing will be temporarily suspended on DiDi Express (including DiDi Select) and Uber China across the country. Instead, the 'queuing' function, which has been in trial operation in select cities, will be rolled out nation-wide, enabling passengers to easily estimate waiting times and adjust their transportation choices in real-time.
2. Spring Festival Tipping
While holiday passengers won't need to pay extra for dynamic pricing, they may be asked to pay a special ‘Spring Festival tip,’ varying between RMB1-5, in 140 cities around the country. The entire customers’ tips, together with a special incentive of an equivalent amount provided by DiDi, will be awarded to the drivers in appreciation of their service during the holiday. This year, DiDi will invest more than RMB1 billion in special incentives to support drivers who are transporting passengers during the Spring Festival holiday.
3. Access Multiple Driver Pools at the Same Time
A temporary pilot program will be launched in nine cities, including Shanghai, Hangzhou and Chengdu, to allow passengers access to Taxi, Express and DiDi Select driver pools simultaneously with one touch. Passengers will only need to pay fares associated with the type of service they are provided.
Something to keep in mind: DiDi is encouraging its customers to plan ahead over Chinese New Year and utilize public transportation, as well as the company’s carpool service, when traveling to festive activities.
