Dec 12 & 16: Christmas Floral Class
Looking to add some handcrafted festive flair to your home this Christmas? Jumeirah Himalayas Hotel Shanghai is teaming up with with French flower studio SEBASTIEN for a series of Christmas-themed floral arrangement classes on Tuesdays and Saturdays this month. Call 152 2139 5839 to book.

Dec 14: The Cabaret Show: Chicago
Cocktail bar Candor puts their plush, retro interiors to good use by hosting a rendition of celebrated Broadway musical Chicago, the movie version of which won the Oscar for Best Picture in 2003. Reimagined as cabaret show, the performance will feature renditions of songs like “All That Jazz” and “Cell Block Tango” by local vocalists Keone and Naomi Rose with choreography by Kara Lecroi.

Dec 14-27: Legally Blonde The Musical
See Elle Woods conquer Harvard in a whole new format with this musical theater adaptation of the beloved 2001 film. A major hit on Broadway, Legally Blonde The Musical features a catchy soundtrack, dynamic dances and the same invaluable message as the movie: you can accomplish anything if you’re true to yourself.

Dec 15: A Place to Bury Strangers
Renowned
NYC noise rockers A Place to Bury Strangers come to Shanghai as part of
New Noise’s latest tour. Known for extremely intense live shows, their
songs are harsh, noisy and psychedelic while still remaining catchy and
emotionally driven. Catch their Shanghai debut at Yuyintang.

Dec 16: Box to Give
Box to Give is a holiday charity event from Hilton Shanghai Hongqiao. Shanghai Rende Foundation and FitHearts. Each attendee can take part in a unique 1-hour boxing class tailored to their age and experience level. There are also gift bags for each participant, plus raffles and vendors onhand with refreshments. Proceeds from Box to Give benefit Shanghai Rende’s “I Want a Tiny Toy” foundation, which provides toy bags to orphan’s and left-behind children in China.

Dec 16: Re-TROS
After
dropping their first album in eight years, a bold, experimental hybrid
of techno and krautrock called Before the Applause, Re-TROS (or
Rebuilding the Rights of Statues) pass through Shanghai as part of their
album release tour. They’ve also just returned from touring abroad with
UK 80s new wave legends Depeche Mode. Highly recommended.

Dec 16: SNAP! Holiday Party
Queer nightlife crew Snap! throws a holiday party for the ages at Xixi Bistro, taking over the entire 2-floor bar and restaurant. DJ The Uhhh will spin his mix of sunny house and disco, and the the stroke of midnight will bring a special queer Christmas-themed live performance. Ticket price covers a welcome glass of Prosecco and one house pour.

Dec 16: Love Bang: Akashic Voyage
The last Love Bang party of 2017 offers up an excellent roster of locally-based DJ talent, including Ceezy, Illsee of Stockholm Syndrome, Provoda of VOID and OG Shanghai duo Baijiu Robot, who formed a decade ago in 2008. Expect surreal, cosmic visuals from VJ Chen Xixi and a mix of dance music spanning funk, hip hop, Italo disco, post-punk, dark wave, house and more.

Dec 16-17: The Blue Planet in Concert
BBC’s
documentary series The Blue Planet is a masterful visual exploration of
the ocean and all the wonders it has to offer, with narration by David
Attenborough and an original score by Hans Zimmer. The Blue Planet in Concert pairs a screening of selections from the series with a live
performance of the score. The 90-minute show is appropriate for children
aged 5 and up.

Dec 17: Desiigner
Brooklyn-born rapper Desiigner rose to prominence last year when his single “Panda” reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100. Known for his take on southern-style hip-hop and trap, he’s currently at work on a debut studio album and has collaborated with Kanye West and Gucci Mane. Catch his Sunday night performance at Arkham from STD.
