Oct 31: Horror Disco Halloween
Among
specially-themed installations, Empire invites you to sip on a Bloody
Mary and dance to disco all night at their Halloween party, which boasts a
number of guests DJs including Frau (China Social Club), Lindberg and
ADO8.

Oct 31: Halloween 2
While they also threw a Halloween bash last weekend, Zapata's is
gearing up for a sequel on Halloween's actual date. They've got a DJ
until late, a prize for the best costume not to mention free flow
Margaritas for the ladies from 9-11pm. The day also coincides with their
Taco Buffet, of which payment of RMB138 will also get you free flow
Carlsberg and frozen Margaritas from 6.30-10pm.

Oct 31-Nov 5: Pride and Prejudice
For
their latest foray into canonic Victorian literature, the UK's
Chapterhouse Theatre Company adapts Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen's
classic romance novel of manners, to the stage and takes it on a China
tour.

Nov 2: Inner Life Burst Album Release Concert
JZ Club hosts the release show of the Shanghai-based Coelho Band, led by Portuguese guitarist Luis Coelho. With members from Cuba, Mauritius and Russia, the band brings together different music cultures for a unique, guitar-driven sound.

Nov 2: Anvil
OG Canadian heavy metal band Anvil, who formed in 1978 and were forerunners of metal's most iconic bands like Megadeth and Metallica, come to Shanghai for a show at Bandai Namco. Anvil were the subject of an acclaimed documentary in 2008 and have released 16 studio albums.

Nov 3: TEDxPuxi: 'YES! And...'
Operating under the TED banner, TEDxPuxi is a non-profit organization that promotes the spreading and sharing of ideas through short informative talks. This event will address and deconstruct the possibilities surrounding the phrase “Yes! And…” looking at the way in which these simple words, when spoken in dialogue with someone, offer the speaker and the listener new opportunities. Speakers this year include Starbucks China CMO Emily Chang, mental health expert Kate Yan and agency founder Genevieve Flaven. Check out our TEDxPuxi interview series here.

Nov 3: Asian Vibes Sixth Anniversary
Local techno crew Asian Vibes celebrates their sixth anniversary at Arkham. The headliner of the night is Scalameriya, who deals in industrial techno combined with dubstep, drum n bass and breakbeat and bass music. Joining him is former Asian Vibes resident Nakazawa, who is returning to Shanghai after a 3-year absence. A limited number of sixth anniversary t-shirts will be on offer as well.

Nov 4: Bubba's 12th Annual Chili Cookoff
One of Shanghai’s longest-running annual traditions returns this year with teams of local chefs and independent cooks competing for the title of best chili in town. Drink deals include RMB25 Budweisers, Goose Island and Sierra tequila cocktails. The entry price gets you a pint of Budweiser, unlimited chili tastings and a People’s Choice ticket, which allows you to cast your vote for the winning team. More info here.

Nov 4: Hyph11e Vanishing Cinema Album Release
Shanghai producer and member of Genome collective Hyph11e releases her debut album, Vanishing Cinema, on local label SVBKVLT. Expect harsh and innovative industrial sounds at the release party, with sets by Osheyack, Howell and Charity and visuals by Wang Newone. Cover price includes digital copy of the album. Nov 5: Baikal
Named after a lake in Siberia that is the deepest and oldest in the world, this mysterious Dutch producer based in Berlin deals in introspective house and techno. Beijing promoters dART bring him to Shanghai for his China debut at Elevator.
