Sep 26-28: Film Cycle: Female Identity in Chilean Cinema
Shanghai Film Museum hosts this three-day showcase of Chilean films that feature a strong female character, with two of the films' directors coming in for a Q&A after their films are screened. Films include Fragmentos de Lucia,No soy Lorena and Gloria. Tickets are free with RSVP; see ticketing site for details.

Sep 27: Shanghai SIPG vs Urawa Red Diamonds AFC Champions League Semi-Final
Trophy chasing Shanghai SIPG go into the biggest game in their history as they take on Urawa Red Diamonds of Japan in the first leg of the AFC Champions League semi-final. Can competition top scorer Hulk and in-form Wu Lei power the Chinese club into the final? Head along to Shanghai Stadium to find out.

Sep 27: One Republic
Major American pop-rock band One Republic comes to Shanghai for an arena show at Mercedes-Benz Arena. They first formed back in 1996 when their two core members met in high school in Colorado and are now known for catchy hits like “Counting Stars” and for mixing genres from folk and rock to synth pop and disco.

Sep 28: Unravel
The latest installment of monthly storytelling night Unravel has a theme of ‘Press Play,’ in which its featured story tellers will spin a yarn about what they “play, watch, hear, share, capture or create.” Stories start at 7.30pm with music from 10pm onward.

Sep 30: Lali Puna
German indietronica band Lali Puna is a cult favorite thanks to their mix of catchy hooks and complex orchestrations, along with frontwoman Valerie Trebeljahr’s unique vocals; they’ve had a slow burning career over the course of five albums, dropping their latest, Two Windows, with a China tour through Beijing and Shanghai from New Noise.

Sep 30: Mao Livehouse 8 Year Anniversary
Mao Livehouse celebrates eight years as one of the city's preeminent live music venues. The eclectic line-up for the anniversary show includes No Electricity (pictured), who play a blend of jazz, rock and funk, Busy Gang member and hip-hop artist Kozay, Shanghai punk rockers Dirty Fingers and hip-hop troupe The Lion of the Far East.

Oct 1: Over/Under
Get your Golden Week off to a roaring start with this all-day event at the McKinnon Hotel. Two parties will be happening at once — on on the hotel’s open-air terrace overlooking Jing’an and the other in the warehouse-esque space underneath. Popasuda and China Social Club will DJ, while Eddy Yang sling cocktails and Bearded Bear Catering serves up tacos and BBQ.

Oct 1: Brodinski
S.T.D. brings pioneering French producer Brodinski to Shanghai over this year’s national holiday. He’s worked with Kanye West and Theophilius and is known for meshing techno with bass heavy-house music and minimal. Catch his show at Arkham.

Oct 1-3: Diàn Mí Electronic Music Festival
Formerly known as Midi Electronic, this 3-day festival with camping onsite brings together a solid line-up of DJs and electronic rock bands at Taihu Midi Park out in Suzhou, accessible from Shanghai by bus. This year's line-up includes Asian Dub Foundation, 2manyDJs, Nova Heart, SUBS, MHP and lots more.

Until Oct 2: Songs from Above
Danish company Teater Refleksion presents this show aimed at children aged 2-5. Delicate, calming puppetry and object animation come together to offer gentle moments of exploration and discovery for small children in a safe and stimulating environment.
