10 Places to Watch Mayweather Crush McGregor in Shanghai

By Josh Parker and Betty Richardson, August 22, 2017

Feels like a long time coming, but finally, this Sunday August 27 (in China), Floyd Mayweather squares up against Conor McGregor in Las Vegas, Nevada. In a match that sees UFC lightweight champion McGregor stepping into the ring for his first ever professional boxing fight with undefeated, and self-proclaimed 'best ever' boxer, Mayweather, anticipation is reaching boiling point.

Dubbed 'The Money Fight', owing to the ludicrous sums of dosh being earned all round, watching whichever one you think is the biggest douche getting punched is an equally enticing prospect (a tough call after that press conference world tour circus, we know...) Either way, there’s no way you’d want to miss this!

Below is our list of places to catch the match in Shanghai.

UPDATE: Cages is now SOLD OUT and will not be doing walk ups, so ignore option #1

1. Cages - SOLD OUT

Cages Sports Bar Shanghai

Fancy working on your swing after a thrilling boxing showdown? Then head down to Cages where a breakfast buffet will be set up to tame stomachs as well as the option of two drinks, including Budweiser, house pours, soft drinks, juice, tea or coffee. They’ve got all bases covered – pun most definitely intended. So much so they are now SOLD OUT.

Sun Aug 27, doors open at 9am; presale tickets RMB180, or RMB250 on the door. See a listing for Cages

2. The Camel

Expect a typically lively atmosphere down at The Camel as they plan to show the fight whilst politely suggesting to cheer on the underdog – that’s McGregor to those not following this clash as closely as the latest season of Game of Thrones.

Sun Aug 27, doors open at 7.30am; entry costs RMB100 but with that you’ll get three drinks (or two drinks and a breakfast option if you need some belly timber to get you going that early). See a listing for The Camel

3. The Rooster

Popular Jing'an bar The Rooster will most definitely be screening the fight this Sunday, though they'd like to caution that theirs will be via a streaming feed. They're "95 percent sure the stream will be fine, but don't want any angry Irish guys flipping a shit if it cuts out at some point." Fair dos.

They'll also be putting on their signature RMB150 free-flow brunch.

August 27, doors open at 10am; free entrance. See a listing for The Rooster

4. Big Bamboo

Big Bamboo Bar Shanghai

Billing it as the 'fight of the century,' Big Bamboo isn’t downplaying the enormity of the occasion. On hand will also be an all-you-can-eat BBQ brunch.

Sun Aug 27, show starts at 10am; entry is RMB130 presale (available until Aug 24), or RMB160 on the door. See listings for Big Bamboo

5. The Brew, Kerry Hotel Pudong

The Brew Bar Kerry Hotel Pudong Shanghai

With six hand-crafted signature beers and a cider at the Brew, what better way to wet the whistle before and during the fight? Added incentive includes a lucky draw price to win an autograph by Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Oscar De La Hoya valued at RMB3,000+.

Sun Aug 27, doors open at 9am; pay RMB198 per person to access the live viewing party with a buffet brunch, whereby adding RMB128 to your deal you will get a free flow of craft beer. See a listing for The Brew, Kerry Hotel Pudong

6. The Hop Project

The Hop Project Shanghai

With a nice and cozy atmosphere, your interest will only be heightened by the mouth-watering array of Brewdog beers on tap and Co. Cheese toasties to go with watching the match-up. (I’m salivating just typing this.)

Sun Aug 27, doors open at 9am; entry is free. See a listing for The Hop Project

7. Duo Sports Bar

Duo Sports Bar Shanghai

Screening the fight with the more than tempting offer of a free-flow of Irish Jameson whiskey on the go once you purchase a pint of IPA or a breakfast sandwich, Duo has its colors firmly tied to McGregor’s corner. So head down to Duo if you’re cheering on the man from the Emerald Isle.

Sun Aug 27, entrance is free but space is limited. See a listing for Duo Sports Bar

8. The Shed

Both Jing'an and Hongmei Lu branches of The Shed will be screening the match this Sunday. Entrance is free for both venues; all they ask is that customers buy a drink and/or some food, which given their advantageously priced menu doesn't seem like too tall an order.

Sun Aug 27, free entrance. Doors open at 8am, breakfast and full menu available. See listings for The Shed

9. The Spot

The Spot Sports Bar Shanghai

The Spot's opening its doors at a super early 8am for the Mayweather/McGregor occasion, and they'll be slinging burgers and pizzas to line hungry stomachs.

Sun Aug 27, free entrance. Doors open at 8am. See a listing for The Spot

10. Boxing Cat Brewery (Sinan Mansions)

Boxing Cat Brewery Sinan Mansions

Your friendly neighborhood Boxing Cat will be screening the fight from 9am, and they've got special drink deals on too. RMB30 gets you brunch-appropriate Bloody Mary's, or beers, and Jameson whisky shots are just RMB20. And if you buy five of them, you get another one for free.

Aug 27, free entrance. Doors open at 8am. See a listing for Boxing Cat Brewery (Sinan Mansions)

Anyhoo, that's it for places where you can witness McGregor get his ass completely handed to him by Mayweather. Hopefully there'll also be some places screening the real fight of the year, when unbeaten middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin faces three-time world champion Canelo Álvarez on September 16.
