The fate of hundreds of stray dogs, as well as a few cats, rescued off the streets of Shanghai remains in limbo after authorities recently ordered the animals to be evicted from a local shelter by the end of this month.
Over 600 dogs and around 20 cats need new homes after the local government said it would be shutting down a shelter run by a local Shanghai resident in Liuhe, Jiangsu province by August 31.
The resident, known around local volunteer circles as "Auntie Wang," has been rescuing stray animals in Shanghai for several years.
Up until mid-2016, Wang had been running a shelter with over 400 dogs of various breeds in Pujiang Town (Pudong).
Last June, the shelter was relocated to its current facility in Liuhe, also due to pressure from local authorities, who cited change in land usage as the reason for the move. In the 14 months since reestablishing operations at the new location, Wang has helped facilitate the the rescues of hundreds more dogs.
But just a little over a year after the new location opened, it's getting shut down.
Thankfully, a group of individual volunteers have banded together to help Auntie Wang move the animals. And with less than two weeks now before the eviction, they'll need all the support they can get.

What will donations go towards?
Volunteer Jessica Ye says donations will be used to fund the establishment of the new shelter, food for the animals, transportation for animal movement and rental of a new place. So far, they haven't found a new location.
"Most importantly, we need a place to go," Ye tells That's Shanghai. "It's very, very difficult to find a place where we can put these dogs."
The volunteers hope for the support of the Shanghai community to find new homes for the animals.
"These dogs need your help, and Auntie Wang needs your support," says Ye.
Please contact either the WeChat accounts or email address listed above if you have any other questions about the rescue efforts.
