Shanghai-born Jialai Wang (Katosh Wang) began her career as a graphic designer and art director. She was immersed in the fashion culture and led a team to launch several campaigns for a couple of Shanghai-based urban fashion brands, including Meters/bonwe, Me & City and Fairwhale Jeans. After three years of collaborating with various fashion photographers and design teams in New York and Asia, she decided to pick up the camera and make the transition into photography to fully express her vision.
The following year, she moved to Los Angeles to study photography at the New York Film Academy. At NYFA, she met her favorite instructor David Jakle, who was the first assistant to legendary American photographer Herb Ritts. At the end of 2016, Wang moved to New York to assist Sharon Suh, who was the senior editor for Vanity Fair. She was lucky to assist Suh in shooting celebrity founders, like Tory Burch and Reese Witherspoon. Now she is testing for IMG, Next, as well as a couple of renowned model agencies while doing her editorial and motion work.
In July 2017, Wang's work was featured on MODELS.com's exclusive online magazine, The Ones2Watch. Many of her images convey the unique perspective and sensitivity gained from her divided experience as a visual artist, both in Asia and theUnited States.
