July 25-26: James Carter
One
of the most admired saxophonists of his generation, James Carter has
released 12 albums in different styles of funk and jazz, and won the Dr.
Alaine Locke Award for leadership in African-American culture in 2004.

July 26-27: Sol Dance Company: Sale
Sol
Dance Company was founded in the ancient city of Be'er Sheva in Israel
by artistic director Eyal Dadon. His modern dance performance Sale draws
in contemporary music like Bon Iver and Nicolas Jaar with a theme about
overcoming challenges in life.

July 26: Roxie Cinema: Girl Trash
Roxie's latest movie night brings you a screening of Girl Trash, a campy movie-musical about hapless rockers trying to make it to a Battle of the Bands on time, starring The L Word’s Clementine Ford, Kate French and Rose Rollins. The movie will have English and Chinese subtitles, and there's free popcorn on offer.

July 26: While She Sleeps
Mao
Livehouse hosts the latest tour of While She Sleeps, a UK metalcore
band who regularly play in China. Formed in 2006, they've released three
studio albums, and are currently touring their latest, You Are We,
which dropped this past April.

July 27: Top 5 Opening Party x Unravel
The latest Unravel is a collaborative event with art collective Top 5 Poster Show, bringing you personal stories told live and an exhibit of pop art posters, which are also on sale. The theme for this month’s stories is 'When I Grow Up.' The performances start at 7.30pm, but you can arrive earlier to eat, drink and see some poster art.

July 28-30: Urban Aesthetics Fair
Food, music and lifestyle brand Woodstock of Eating hosts this weekend-long pop-up event at M50. There will be DJ sets from some of Shanghai's best local talent, including Swimful, Zean, Naaah, Monk, and Rawb, plus pop-ups from Little Teppenyaki, LuuuX and Big Fish. The highlight is a diverse collection of underground urban artworks, including Lady Fight Club experimental visual art, A World of 0 and 1 vaporwave-themed app, an experimental art exhibit by Vice Creators Project, and a tech-art exhibit from MAJOR.

July 28: Malaa
There
has been much speculation about the identity of mysterious DJ and
producer Malaa, who performs in a balaclava and has been releasing
banging trap and EDM mixes for the past two years. Skrillex, DJ Snake,
Aazar (who SHFT is also bringing to Shanghai this month) and many more
big-name producers have all been accused of being Malaa. Catch the
masked producer at Arkham.

July 29: Truncate
A
joint effort between Elevator's Room 303 and Hong Kong-based promoters
Delta, LA techno boss Truncate comes to Shanghai. Truncate explores a
deeper, rawer side of techno, and also releases music under the moniker
Audio Injection.

July 29: Hutong School Block Party
Hutong School, which has offered Chinese language and culture classes for the last 12 years, hosts a block party to celebrate its anniversary. Expect activities like VR and calligraphy, food from Mr. Waffle and Little Catch, raffle prizes and more.

July 29-30: Brew Beer Fest 2017
This annual event at Kerry Hotel Pudong offer a smorgasbord of craft brews from around China and beyond, including Midtown Brewery from Hangzhou, The BREW, Little Creatures, Leffe and Goose Island. Also expect grub from The COOK, 1515 West, Tomtito and lots more.
