Interiors: Agustin Trosman's enticing home

Textile entrepreneur Agustin Trosman is one of those bachelors that women could easily fall for. In addition to running his own business and being incredibly well-traveled, the dapper and charming Argentinean lives in a dreamy lane house; an idyllic property where city and country living can seamlessly coexist. We take a peek.

Taking up the entire first floor of an old lane building off of Jiangguo Xi Lu, this fetching pad is surrounded by a private garden, offering a tranquil respite from the city’s hustle and bustle.

Weather allowing, it is outside where this gentleman spends most of his time, either chilling on a hammock or lolling on the sleek garden sofa set. Who needs a swanky bar lounge when you’ve got this just outside your living room?

A true hedonist, Trosman often organizes social gatherings and outdoor dinners, which include professional cocktail makers and chefs on asado (Argentinean barbeque) duty to take care of the party.

The house underwent a full-on overhaul when Trosman moved in three years ago. The mint, open kitchen, kitted out with a proper oven and all the extra comforts of a modern home – hello espresso maker and wine cooler - allows him to cut off from work and continue his gatherings inside come winter time.

In the kitchen, what looks like a full-length window accessing the garden is, in fact, the door to a stunning glasshouse. “This was one of the main reasons I went for the flat,” says Trosman. “It’s my tranquil space. When it rains outside, there’s no other place I’d rather be.”

A canvas for Trosman’s discerning taste and boho aesthetic, the glasshouse is where the bachelor has truly made his mark, in a showcase of Oriental trinkets, antique Buddhist statues and handcrafted textiles.

Making clever use of the fabrics he works with and his knowledge of color codes, Trosman has opted for a stark and highly sophisticated contrast of red and white in his room, further emphasizing the brightness of the space.

Keeping it low key yet understatedly chic, the living room shows a few designer pieces, like the iconic Eames lounge chair and ottoman, next to simpler teak furniture. Filled with light, the room boasts high ceilings and a pastel color palette that makes it feel airy and very light.
