A recurring look at what's happening at Shanghai's art galleries:
1. Tsuyoshi Hisakado
MoCA Pavilion hosts the first solo
exhibition in China from the award-winning Kyoto artist. During his
Shanghai stay, Hisakado will create a space-specific installation
combining aspects of light and sound for a rich sensory experience.

2. Yu Youhan Retrospective
In addition to hosting the 11th Shanghai Biennale, the Power Station of Art will house this massive retrospective of the influential artist. Nearly 200 works and documents from Yu's 50-year-career will be displayed.

3. Yang Fudong: Moving Mountains
The celebrated Chinese contemporary artist and cinematographer premiers his latest work, a 46-minute black-and-white film inspired by the ancient tale of a man, many dubbed foolish, seeking to move a mountain. Visually, Moving Mountains takes its cues from the 1940s ink paintings of Xu Beihong. Popular actress Wan Qian stars.

4. Slippages
Pearl Lam hosts this groups exhibition featuring works “slippery in meaning” that address the relationship between interpretation and perception. Participants include Gao Weigang, Sakarin Krue-On, Li Jingxiong, MAP Office (see above), Nabuqi, Sun Yuan and Peng Yu, Xie Nanxing and Zhou Yangming.

5. Ni Jun: The Deep Blue Sea
Shanghai Gallery of Art welcomes the acclaimed Tianjin artist who presents his latest solo exhibition that pays tribute to the force and geopolitical impact of the sea. In The Deep Blue Sea, he mixes original research with objects from sites to create works across a variety of media including video, paintings and installations.

6. IdleBeats: Tale of Two Cities 2
Shanghai screen printing institutions Idle Beats team with Phnom Penh based Sticky Fingers Art Print to showcase works from both cities. Nini Sum debuts her new Statue portrait series and Gregor Koerting continues his Real Big City series.
