Got any outstanding debts? The Shanghai Railway Transportation Court has now resorted to settling matters in a very public way. No, they won't be busting any kneecaps, or making any offers that you can't refuse.
What they will be doing is publicly displaying the personal information of anyone that thought they would be away walking from their debts scot-free at Shanghai Railway Station and Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station for all to see.
According to China.org, "The eight people and 10 enterprises exposed have outstanding debts ranging from 1,984 yuan (US$297) to more than 2.92 million yuan." That is a whole lot of scrilla.
The names will be displayed every 10 minutes and be switched up every week. Sometimes ringing a bell to publicly shame someone simply won't do...
Better hope your name (and photo, address, identification card number and amount of money owed) doesn't come up on the big screen; debtors can be denied services throughout China, including hotel service, transportation and private primary school registration.
