The G20 Summit meets annually to discuss important issues regarding the global economy. This year the G20 is to take place in Hangzhou during the first week of September. The Chinese government has officially ordered 255 factories in Shanghai to cease production from August 24 to Sept 6 to ensure that there is as little pollution as possible during the conference, according to Reuters.
It has been reported that there are many large scale factories within a 300km radius of Hangzhou, especially in the neighboring provinces of Zhejiang and Jiangsu. Power plants that rely on coal for energy within the 300km radius of the G20 Summit will be completely shut down for the two weeks that the G20 is in town, and the usage of heavy machinery will be reduced by a minimum of 30 percent across the Shanghai region.
