Shanghai Disneyland's menu has previously been questioned for its strange food, among them Mickey Mouse Peking duck pizza and macaroons printed with cartoon faces. Now, people are raising eyebrows over the amount of money being charged for these controversial food items.
This week, consumers from Shanghai Disneyland's test run vented online about the foods' high prices. A report from Sina stated that almost all meals sold for at least RMB70 each. If you can't afford a meal, a single steamed bun will still cost you RMB6.
Shanghai Disneyland officials were quick to respond. Representatives for the resort told Xinhua that the prices were based on extensive market surveys and analysis conducted among Chinese consumers, industry experts and local regulators. A spokesperson explained, "When setting the prices, we have drawn experience from others in the industry. We also took into consideration the specific demand of the Chinese market." We're wondering who exactly in this Chinese market they speak of decided that paying so much for unappetizing food was necessary...
Worry not, for the complaints were not made in vain. The spokesperson also added that park managers will listen to visitors' feedback. After all, Shanghai Disneyland is still on test runs.
