If a week is a long time in politics, then imagine how long a year in the world’s most-populous country is. Such is the challenge of summing up China’s 2015.
This was a year – like many before it – where celebs rose and fell, peculiar stickers swept WeChat, and utterly pointless world records were smashed. Tigers and flies fell to the drive on corruption, the stock market crashed (and then got back on its feet, kind of) and then most of China’s military paraded through the middle of Beijing as we all took a holiday. In sum, a lot happened, and this humble round-up cannot claim to be authoritative. We can only hope that it is mildly entertaining.
As such, this is perhaps an act of self-indulgence; just a collection of things that captured our imaginations over the year. But to lend some credibility, we’ve also spoken to experts from across the five categories that we have arbitrarily divided the year into – arts, sport, fashion, technology and social media.
They’ve all thrown in some 2016 predictions as well, so we’ll be sure to hold them to account this time next year.
Click through each of the posts below to find our very own take on 2015 in the realms of tech, arts, fashion, sport and online trends, as well as some predictions for 2016.
