Dec 7: Los Animales - Chef’s Showcase Tequila Dinner

Jason OakleyLiquid Laundry hosts some of Shanghai’s top chefs and bartenders for this five-course dinner. Liquid Laundry’s Kelly Lee, Simon Sunwoo and Jacky Wang joins forces with Pirata’s Ling Huang, Coquille’s Jason Oakley (pictured above), Pop Secret’s Pol Garcia, Commune Social’s Kim Melvin and Logan Punch’s Logan Brouse to form a one-time only culinary Voltron. Dec 7: BEAN’s Networking Night

Dec 7-10: Paulaner Bräuhaus Dark Wheat Beer

Paulaner Dark Wheat Beer

Every Christmas season, Paulaner Bräuhaus Shanghai serves up their famed Dark Wheat Beer. The signature Bavarian brew is pale yellow and naturally cloudy due to an unfiltered breweing process that was first created in 1634. Enjoy 0.3L (RMB68) or 0.5L (RMB80-100) drafts of the dark wheat beer that’s perfeclty paired for the restaurant’s numerous hearty Bavarian dishes. Available for a few more days at all Paulaner locations.

Dec 7-13: Boulevard Tap Takeover

The Duvel owned Kansas brewery takes over Kaiba (Wuding Lu), bringing seven of their drinks on tap for all-week RMB30 happy hour deals.

Dec 8: Amy

AmyPigpen Cinema presents the acclaimed documentary detailing the life and legacy of the much-missed Amy Winehouse. It’s a true treat for fans with its mix of unseen footage and unheard tracks. Seats limited to 35 people and film starts at 9pm.

The folks behind the hit summer show Van Gogh Alive pay tribute to the Renaissance legend. This massive exhibition brings to life the genius of Leonardo Da Vinci as an inventor, artist, scientist, anatomist, engineer, architect, sculptor and philosopher. Models of Da Vinci’s ideas have been created from early prototypes of SCUBA gear to a double-flute. Digital replicas of his greatest works like the Mona Lisa will illustrate the genius behind his artistry.

Dec 9-10: Don Pascale

First performed in 1843, this legendary comic opera is considered the highpoint of the form. Zhang Guoyong conducts what promises to be a lively rendition.

Dec 9-16: Yi Café presents Malaysian Week

Malaysian Food Festival @ Yi CafeThe lively flavors of Malaysia will be celebrated at the Pudong Shangri-La, East Shanghai favorite. Chef Saberansa Bilini will visit from the Shangri-La’s Rasa Ria Resort & Spa in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah to deliver authentic Malaysian dishes like chicken curry with potato, lamb kuzzie, rojaj buah, bubur kacang hijauh and much more.

Dec 10: Around the World!

El LuchadorThe latest edition of Popin’s culinary series celebrates Mexican culture at El Luchador. Enjoy a range of your favroite dishes from beef flautas to chicken quesadillas, while indulging in some of the Yongkang Lu favorite’s hand crafted drinks like the famed Coronitaritas.

Dec 11: Pop Up Night Market

Michele AboroThe North Jingan wellness complex hosts this monthly market featuring locally made food and crafts. Residents Aboro Academy will host a boxing demonstration while there will be plenty of Christmas-themed snacks to sample. Dec 11: Perfume GeniusPerfume GeniusSplit Works is bringing back the Seattle singer-songwriter who is riding high on the acclaim of his third album, Too Bright. Portishead’s Adrian Utley produced the disc, which contains the most accessible, yet emotionally raw tracks that Perfume Genius has produced to date. His exceptional single ‘Queen’ was named Song of the Year by Slate

Dec 11: Sin City/Urban Aphrodite Third Birthday

Dec 11: Moslem Priest

Moslem PriestWooozy continues their electronic Offline series by inviting Kuala Lumpur’s finest. Expect to hear sparse and heavy dance tracks in the grime and techno vein, with support from VOID’s Ginga and Woozy’s Jackie and Sleepless.

Dec 11: Dana Leong Quintet

Dana Leong

The two-time Grammy Award winner is considered the world’s top electric cellist. Ever eclectic, Leong is also a respected trombone player for the renowned Balkan Beat Box, while crafting a discography that spans multiple genres. He’s worked with the likes of Kanye, P. Diddy and A-Trak, while recently serving as the guest musical director for the Broadway hit Fela.

Dec 11-12: A Century of Sinatra A Century of SinatraThe Lord of the Pearl, Frank Bray, pays tribute to Ol’ Blue Eyes. The stylish singer will be backed by world-renowned musical director and arranger Rolf Becker and the Pearl Swing Band. Expect to hear classics from ‘My Way’ to ‘Come Fly With Me.’ Dress in your most dapper threads for one of the biggest tribute concerts of the year.

Dec 11-12: Matt DavisMatt DavisThe Alabama comic has been praised by Dave Attell as “funny, filthy, dirty but smart, funny, filthy, dirty.” Shanghai audiences get enough of him. He’ll be making his third trip to the city to rock the new Kung Fu Komedy Club. For more, check out our interview with Matt Davis.

Dec 11-12 Soulection

Star RoThe Los Angeles-based record label, radio show and creative collective will be bringing their “sound of tomorrow” to Arkham for a pair of parties. On Friday, Vice presents the funky future house of UK’s PYRMDPLAZA and genrebending Bay Area favorite The Whooligan for a double-headliner show. The next night, Yeti rings in the birthday of head honcho Yeti B with the label’s ascending producer StarRo (pictured above). The multi-instrumentalist’s live shows mix Ableton Live, keyboard, synthesizer, guitar, percussion, Maschine and vocoder.

Dec 12: Caribbean Association Christmas Charity Dinner

The Carribean Association in China hosts their annual charity dinner, with this year having a theme of “White Caribbean Christmas.” Enjoy a buffet of fine food from the islands, as well as rum, punch, live entertainment and the signature Limbo competition. All raffle proceeds will go to support local charitiies.

Dec 12: STRFKR

Dec 12: Morris Hayes

Mr. Hayes

The recently opened and well-named Glam hosts a certifiable funk legend. Morris Hayes capably replaced Jimmy Jam in The Time, backed up Carmen Electra during her brief music period and served as keyboardist in Prince's legendary NPG band. He's worked with legends from Maceo Parker to Amy Winehouse. Expect a riveting show from the man they simply call Mr. Hayes. RMB388 option comes with dinner beforehand at 7.30pm.

Dec 13: Cashmere Cat Dec13-CashmereCat.jpgSHFT celebrates its third anniversary with the Norwegian producer. Since releasing his influential Mirror Maru and Wedding Bells EP, the former DMC World Champion contestant has been one of Ariana Grande’s main collaborators. He also produced Kanye’s recent ‘Wolves’ single.
