That's Shanghai takes a look at the best of the week:
Nov 16-18: La Bayadere by Mariinsky Theatre
The legendary Saint Petersburg theater has cultivated world-class ballet masters like Galina Sergeyevna Ulanova and Rudolf Nureyev, while serving as the site where Tchaikovsky’s classics Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty and The Nutcracker made their world premieres. They revisit their rich history with this show that premiered in 1877. Adapted from the Indian poetic drama Shakuntala and choreographed by Marius Petipa, La Bayadère tells the tragic love story between temple dancer Nikiya and warrior Solar, set to a vibrant Indian backdrop.

Nov 16-29: Nanta
This uproarious comedy is the longest-running show in South Korean history. Three cooks are on the clock to finish preparing a wedding banquet when the manager installs his incompetent nephew in the team. What follows is a mix of acrobatics, magic tricks, comedy, pantomime and audience participation set to traditional Korean samul nori music. Mostly non-verbal, the show is becoming a world-wide hit with over 9 million attendees and high profile runs on Broadway, at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Macau’s Sands Theatre.

Nov 16-Jan 17: War Horse
Since its 2007 premiere at London’s National Theatre, War Horse has become one of the world’s most celebrated plays. Productions have picked up Laurence Olivier Awards, swept the 2011 Tony Awards and inspired a hit 2011 film helmed by the legendary Steven Spielberg. Years in the making, the National Theatre Company of China debuted a Mandarin version in Beijing for a months-long run. The show continues its national tour, making its Shanghai debut and taking over Shanghai Culture Square until mid-January. See more on the show here.

Nov 17: Soylent Green
Sub-Cinema and Have a Juice present this 1973 classic that follows an NYPD detective investigating the murder of a CEO in a world ravaged by the greenhouse effect and overpopulation. Charlton Heston stars.

Nov 18: Shanghai Brewery Donghu Grand Opening

Nov 18: Who Am I
OSH-Group is organizing a series of the popular European game ‘Who Am I?’ recently captured in an outstanding scene in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglorious Basterds. Participants will strap a card on their head and have to ask other players a series of yes and no questions to identify their character. Nov 18-23: PIMO Contemporary Art Festival
Shanghai super-artist Xu Zhen’s PIMO art brand teams up with mega collector David Chau and the Cc Foundation to bring the PIMO Arts Festival to Xu’s MadeIn studios in Songjiang. Artists like Shen Fan, Gao Lei, Li Qing and more will have open studios, with the 45-minute performance piece Inventing Ritual being a highlight.

Nov 19: Chefs in the City
Da Ivo hosts the latest epicurean journey that features six of Shanghai’s finest Italian chefs: Riccardo Messina of Acqua e Farina; Marco Barbieri and Marco Busatti of Da Marco; Corrado Michelazzo of 10 Corso Como; Giuseppe Tino of Gaia 2 Shanghai; and David Bassan. Enjoy a breathtaking six course menu, with wine pairing by professional sommelier Simone Semprini. All net profits will go to the Baobei Foundation that provides surgeries and post-surgical rehabilitation for Chinese orphans with life-threatening birth defects.

Nov 19: Shanghai Souls Charity Photography Showcase
Shanghai Global Shapers is an initiative of the World Economic Forum. They launch their first community project in the city and are inviting photographers to participate by submitting work under the ‘Shanghai Souls’ theme. 75 works will be chosen, printed out and displayed at Liquid Laundry. People can take photos home with a donation that benefits Eden Ministry, a rehabilitation center for Asia’s red-light districts.

Nov 19: Honig & Jonas David
The German indie-folk duo are riding high thanks to the acclaim given to their last album, It’s not a hummingbird. It’s your father's ghost. With a sound that recalls Bon Iver, the duo will be touring China backed by a full band.

Nov 20: The Hunger Games - Mockingjay, Part 2
After the past two films in the series faced delayed openings in China, the finale of the hit franchise scores a rare triple opening in the US, China and Japan. The titular Games are over as Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) leads a resistance to finally topple the fat cats in the capital. See all the Hollywood movies out in Chinese cinemas this month here.
Nov 20: Job Fair for Foreigners
Chinajob hosts the sole job fair authorized by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security. Held across three cities, there are over 1,400 job opportunities available including full-time, part-time and internship opportunities.

Nov 20: Tribute to Stevie Wonder
After organizing tribute shows to Elvis and hip hop at the Mixing Room, Encore Live returns to the Sennheiser Shanghai Concert Hall to praise Stevie Wonder. Soul singer Denise Beningfield serves as musical director, recruiting some of the city’s best musical talent. Expect to go on a musical journey through the soul legend’s life, from his time as a harmonica-wielding teen prodigy responsible for ‘Fingerprints,’ through his iconic 1970s era where he released classic album after classic album to his latter-day hits like ‘I Just Called to Say I Love You.’ For more vintage Stevie, check out his awe-inspiring Sesame Street performances of 'Superstitious' on YouTube and Youku, as well as a talk-box assisted take on '1-2-3' on YouTube and Youku.

Nov 20: Neon Indian
The synth-wizard is (in)famous as one of the faces of chillwave, the downtempo electro-pop sound that was all the rage a few years ago. He’s managed to outlast the genre by going darker for 2011’s Psychic Chasms. However, it sounds like Neon Indian will be in joyous form, touring China to support his new disc, VEGA INTL. Night School. Developed over four years, it’s an album full of funky guitar lines, Balearic rhythms and his most elaborate songwriting yet. For more, check out our feature on Neon Indian.

Nov 20: China Drifting Festival
This annual tour mixes European and Chinese acts for tours across both regions. This year’s edition features German electronic live trio Brandt Brauer Frick (BBF) collaborating with Pet Conspiracy’s wild frontman Huzi and RE:TROS’s Hua Dong. In addition, BBF and RE:TROS will perform solo sets with support from Swiss nu-wave futurists None of Them.

Nov 20: Samuli Kemppi
Promoters Footprints celebrate their fourth anniversary with the Finnish icy cold techno favorite. With a sound that evokes Kraftwerk and Depeche Mode, Kemppi mixes heavy bass with minimal techno. Ben Huang, MIIIA and Jackie support.

Nov 20: Gabriele Poso (Live) + Hallex M (DJ set)
Unico has another killer booking that combines live music with electronics. Gabriele Poso is a virtuoso percussionist and multi-instrumentalist. The Italian artist and producer will team up with French DJ and producer, Hallex M.

Nov 20-21: Glenn Wool
For their latest international showcase, Kung Fu Komedy is bringing in the London-by-way-of-Vancouver comic who’s been praised as “cleverly subversive.” For more, check out our interview with Glenn Wool.

Nov 21: Kiddies' Super Hero Party
Paulaner @ Fenyang Lu is throwing another of their family-friendly parties. This one will have a Superhero theme with fun activities like Tug of War and archery to be played in the children’s playground. Dress up as your favorite superhero while enjoying a scrumptious spread of Bavarian and international favorites. Adults can also enoy a freshly brewed 0.5L Paulaner beers for RMB60.

Nov 21: Disney on Ice
Get ready for an enchanting show full of Disney’s most popular characters from Frozen, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast and other animated classics come to life. The popular show takes over Mercedes-Benz Arena from November 20-22 with shows at 7.30pm and 10.30am, including one English language show on November 21.

Nov 21: The Big Wave
The young electronic post-punk trio have taken over the Beijing music scene with a sound indebted to acts like Joy Division, Kraftwerk and The Cure. They’re signed to Modern Sky and have performed on the big stage at festivals like Strawberry and Echo Park. They’re embarking on a 30-city national tour to celebrate the release of their new single and music video, Fill In.

Nov 21: J-Fever & Soulspeak
J-Fever is one of China’s most respected emcees, while Soulspeak has toured the world as one-half of WordySoulspeak. These two pillars of Beijing hip hop continue their fruitful partnership on their second collaborative disc, Colour Blind. Released on Douban’s D-Force Records, the album is a funky look at love. The duo are bringing their national tour to On Stage. Expect J-Fever to bring his trademark energy and be prepared to be amazed at how smoothly Soulspeak swings from the turntables to the guitar. A stunning visual show will accommodate.

Nov 21: Galantis
The Swedish electronic production/songwriting duo were named Best Breakthrough Artist at this year’s International Dance Music Awards. They make their China debut reveling in their hit debut album, Pharmacy.

Nov 21: Rodion
New label Co:Motion has been crushing it with the recent release of MIIIA’s What Just Happened. One of the remixers on that disc, Rodion will be headlining the crew’s latest party. Dubbed “the new genius of Italian dance music,” Rodion has a strong presence in China’s music scene as producer to Beijing indie darlings Nova Heart. He’ll be spinning an intoxicating brand of heavy Italo with support from MIIA, Raz, Mau Mau and the never dead Laura Ingalls.

Nov 21: Mark Knight
After a raucous October that featured a month-long celebration of its birthday, Lola keeps bringing the heat by booking the Grammy nominated DJ and producer. With a career that spans over a decade, Knight has established himself as one of the leading figures in UK house.

Nov 21-22: University Bowl VII
NFL China caps off its NFL Home Field season with this annual tilt pitting the country's best university flag football teams against each other. Former Defensive Player of the Year Troy Polamalu and other members of the Super Bowl winning Pittsburgh Steelers defense, Ryan Clark and Ike Taylor will be the special guests. As always, there will be a variety of interactive games and on-field clinics open to the public, while special treats like the championship Vince Lombardi Trophy will be on display.

ART021 Contemporary Art Festival takes over Shanghai Exhibition Center for its third edition. More international galleries will be presenting a range of works from sculpture to oil painting.

Nov 21-22: Shanghai 48 Hour Film Project screenings
This
global competition invites filmmakers to make their best short film in
only 48 hours. Teams can sign up to participate for RMB800 with the
competition going down from November 13-15. Submissions screenings take
place the week after at Factory 54, with the Best Film moving onto the
