Ah food trucks, street food stand-in for the Western world. You might have noticed the absence of them in Shanghai – that's because they're banned by the food safety authorities, with the exception of ice cream trucks, apparently.
Nevertheless, Willy Trulas Moreno, of Spanish dining institutions el Willy and elEfante, has come up with his own solution: Dumbo truck bar, an engine-less, wheel-less stand in the shape of a truck, to be permanently 'parked' on elEfante's Donghu Lu terrace.
Dumbo's modus operandi will be cocktails, mainly 'classic European long drinks' (spritzes, sangrias, bottled beer and the like) plus a few tropical numbers. True to form, for eats there'll be a selection of 'montaditos' (Spanish tapas served on bread), including crab salad, octopus and caramelized foie gras.
Anyhows, the elEfante crew are marking Dumbo's big arrival with a party this Saturday and Sunday (August 29), which is also in celebration of elEfante's third birthday. Entrance is RMB250 (which includes one drink and brunch), and there'll be paella, a BBQ and DJ sets from Max Capello and Daniel Weinberg. From 12-4pm.
