The ICA at NYU Shanghai presents STRESSED HERMS, SWEAT, & PERIOD GAS, an exhibition by Candice Lin and Patrick Staff. Exhibiting for the first time together in China, their work reconsiders our shared vulnerability and flourishing, by queering the terms of what is "natural" in how we are embodied and how “we” belong to ourselves as individuals, as species, in relation to others and with the world.
Together, the artists have hacked machines and plants to create a “hormonal fog,” in which our already and always permeable, changing, and compromised state in the world is made clear.
While works by each artist further imagine our toxic interdependence and intoxicated being through video, painting, and sculpture. All are invited to join a full moon ritual on 30 November, followed by a conversation with the artists on 5 December.
Please note: ICA’s visitor policy has temporarily changed.
