Sushi Taro Ten is an omakase (chef's choice) sushi restaurant, situated on Jianguo Lu beneath the Capella Hotel development. The original branch of this restaurant in Fukuoka, Japan, holds a Michelin Star and is noted for its traditional approach to sushi, something that head chef Nakanishi Hirohisa represents faithfully at the Shanghai branch, using imported Japanese seafood and accompanying ingredients.
Service here is counter-style, meaning that guests are served directly by the chef and can witness the preparation of the sushi. As such, this restaurant is suitable for smaller parties of no more than four, though larger private dining rooms are available upstairs. Reservation required.
Price: lunch from RMB680-980 per person; dinner from RMB1380-1980 per person.
Who's going: locals, Japanese and Western expats
