On Sunday June 6, expats spread pizza sauce and love as they endeavored to support the children at Bright Connections through a short but sweet pizza making party.
The community members intend to keep the ball rolling with events to support Bright Connections, with the next event taking place later this month at the Wingate by Wyndham. One of the attendees from the pizza event, Sandie Morrison, will be leading an art and music class.
Jake Sanders, who organized the pizza event, explained to That’s Sanya, “There were volunteers from Australia, China, New Zealand, [Canada, South Africa] and the US to help show the world-famous Italian dish to the children.”
At the pizza event, Sanders provided all of the materials and made pizza for the children while volunteers helped to feed and play with the children. Sanders has taken initiative in getting Wingate involved in the event later this month, with the hotel providing the space, drinks and snacks for the art and music class for free.
“Anyone who would like to get involved is more than welcome,” Sanders said.
“[Sanders] wants to form a group of people who can take the lead for an event themselves. For instance he did [the] pizza [event] yesterday,” Morrison said, explaining she thought the idea was great, which definitely played into her taking leadership for the next event. “I will provide all supplies for my event and find people to help me. [Bright Connections] will arrange transportation [for the children].”

The main call out now is for volunteers to run their own events in order to help, as the space is available.
“No one person is in charge, [we’re] just looking for people to spearhead a function. We have the facility just need them to make a planned event,” Morrison said.
The hope for the events is to raise awareness on how great the need is for helping hands at Bright Connections. As for future planned events, there’s of course a seaside trip on the horizon.
“Down the road we do plan to take them to the beach and will need lots of volunteers as many of these kids are handicapped,” Morrison added.
