There will be a double whammy tonight – a total lunar eclipse will sweep through Sanya during a supermoon, the biggest and brightest full moon of the year.
But don’t blink! This particular eclipse is even more special because its totality will only last 15 minutes and the moon will turn a red color. You can read more about types of eclipses here.
The eclipse will rise in Sanya around 7.08pm then the totality will begin just a few minutes later at 7.11pm, with the main event ending at 7.25pm.

So, where can you go to see this celestial wonder? Here are a few recommendations:
Dadonghai Beach Boardwalk
Grab a seat outside at any of the ocean-view restaurants on the boardwalk for a great vantage point. FreeGen and just down from the bar, Circle and SeeSea, are great spots to relax and take in the spectacle, but there are many other places to grab a seat, some grub and watch the eclipse unfold!
Xiaodonghai’s Beach Bar 沙滩吧 at the Intercontinental
Get there early and grab yourself a cozy pod and a frozen daiquiri facing the beach. After the eclipse, head over to the Beer Factory a few hundred meters away to discuss your out-of-this-world experience over a game of pool.
Hit the Beach
Grab a blanket, camping chair, some convenience store brews and head to any of the beaches with some pals to get a budget-friendly view of the night sky.
