How can a bean be naughty? We can’t help but wonder as we step into this import Taiwan cafe. It’s clear that thinking hard is not what this venue is about, however; it’s more about chatting and idling away the hours.

Located in the South Zone of the Mall of the World, Naughty Bean’s concept centers on laid-back coffee served in a quiet garden. The cement floor, red brick wall, wooden chairs and tables and hanging greenery all combine to emit natural and peaceful vibes, while the space between tables is large enough that your neighbors won’t be able to overhear your gossiping.

Freshness is a priority here. Raw coffee beans are imported from Taiwan and then roasted by experienced staff at the shop. If the beans are not sold one month after being roasted, they are replaced. As for coffee’s all-time companion milk, Naughty Bean has it delivered daily from big local dairy brands like Yantang and Xiangmanlou.

The original latte (RMB27) is a thickly milky drink that goes down smoothly, the aromas of the coffee lingering like fragrant incense. Not a coffee buff and want to try something light? Order the fresh fruit tea (RMB32). With lemon slices and blocks of apple and kiwifruit, this cheerful drink has a little surprise: the black tea sandwichs itself between the orange juice at the bottom and the fruit on top. The tasty combination of sweet and sour offers multi-layered enjoyment.

Food options are limited, but that doesn’t mean what is on offer is sub-par. The panini with fresh basil and roasted chicken (RMB38) is served with a small portion of veggie salad. In between the crispy bread is yellow melted cheese, red sliced tomatoes, white tender chicken and green chopped basil. After a day of hard work, it is a sight for sore (and hungry) eyes.

This comfy cafe has to be given credit for its banana chocolate waffle (RMB48). Considerately cut into small petal shapes that are easy mouthfuls, the medium-sweet dessert is dressed with whipped cream and banana slices.

Taiwanese people are often considered to be gentle and sweet, and Naughty Bean is too. Service here is timely, thoughtful and hearty. Add that to the guaranteed-fresh coffee and casually elegant food, and we are sure Naughty Bean will have Tianhe’s denizens jumping for caffeinated joy.
