St. Catherine’s Day, which falls on November 25 each year, commemorates the martyrdom of St. Catherine. In the UK, Canada and Estonia, people celebrate the day by partaking in a spectacular feast. While in France, the country of romance and fashion, St. Catherine’s day was once celebrated through prayers to attract suitable future husbands and parades of creatively designed hats. Now, in modern times, St. Catherine’s Day has become an occasion for young designers to show what they’ve got.

ESMOD, the oldest fashion design school in the world, had its branch school established in Guangzhou this past May. In occasion of St. Catherine’s Day, the school hosted a costume party at Soothe DS bar on the night of November 25. Under the theme “timeline”, students and teachers from ESMOD Guangzhou presented a variety of fashion styles, fusing French vintage with modern industrial elements.
