It’s not often that Guangzhou gets things before Beijing and Shanghai, but when eforea opened in 2012, it was the first example of the Hilton Hotels and Resorts’ global spa service to hit China. Flocking to the Hilton Guangzhou Tianhe, spa-goers eagerly turned up to sample organic, healing and revitalizing treatments.

If you’re feeling a little bunged up, the Detoxing Aroma Therapy is a great way to unblock your senses. Lasting for either an hour (RMB780) or 90 minutes (RMB880), it uses massage and lymphatic drainage to assist the passing of toxins, cellular waste and excess water.

Thai techniques are one of the standouts of this panacea. Known for its rhythmic pressing and stretching, Thai-style massage is said to release trapped energy hidden inside the body. Using palms and sometimes forearms, the masseuse begins with the legs and then follows the meridian lines. Known in TCM as jing luo (经络), these channels are said to be conduits for qi, regulating blood circulation. Thus, targeting these areas is meant to boost the immune system.

Another highlight of the detox is the essential oil. Consisting of fresh ginger, lemon grass, tea tree leaves and grape seed extracts, the fragrant mixture provides aromatherapy to calm your nerves, relax your muscles and reduce swelling.

To maximize effects, drink as much water as possible following the treatment, as this helps with flushing away unwanted detritus.
