When it comes to shopping, men get a pretty raw deal. Ladies have numerous places in which to hunt for snazzy adornments, but a guy’s options are fairly limited. Knowing what men want, Euro-Huton stocks technologically advanced, stylish swag designed for the great outdoors.

Established in 1999, the store is a retail outlet of Ogear, a wholesaler and international brand distributor in Guangzhou. Aiming to bring a touch of sophistication through superior quality products, it mainly sells men’s daily accessories by foreign, time-honored names, as well as a smattering of clothing. Currently, there are over 40 companies represented at each of the 43 Euro-Huton branches around China.

At the Euro-Huton in the Peace World Plaza, goods are arranged according to brand in a simple and efficient manner. According to Ms Lu Xuanshu, a staff member at the shop, optical products are the main attraction. In particular, binoculars by the German brand Steiner (ranging from RMB1,800 to 10,000) are among the most sought-after items on display. Although actually designed for military use – over 60 percent of the world’s armed forces currently employ them – these double-barreled telescopes are also popular with bird watchers, shutterbugs and hunters, as they are cold resistant, durable, waterproof and, most importantly, highly light sensitive. Certain state leaders have also been seen raising these nifty numbers to their eyes, including Vladimir Putin, Hu Jintao and former South Korean president Lee Myung-Bak.

If you’re the adventure-loving type, watches by another German brand may pique your interest. Barigo is largely dedicated to making meteorological instruments, but they also have a line of timepieces. The Penta 55 SOW model (RMB6,880) is favored by many outdoor activity enthusiasts, as it is the first watch in the world with an in-built compass. Able to do more than just tell the time, it also displays the altitude, temperature and weather, making it a handy trinket, come rain or shine.
