On Saturday morning, the Guangdong Provincial Health Commission confirmed one new locally transmitted COVID-19 case in Guangzhou.

The case was recorded in Guangzhou’s Baiyun district and local residents have been ordered to take a nucleic acid test.

The confirmed case is a 50 year old man surnamed Xie, who resides on Xinshi Street in the Baiyun District.

Xie is a worker at Wenxing Hotel, which is currently being used as an isolation hotel.

Wenxing Hotel has been upgraded to a medium risk area and 91 close contact cases have been identified.

Xie tested positive after a routine nucleic acid test and he has since been transferred to Guangzhou’s University hospital for further tests.

The case has been confirmed to be that of Delta variant and not that of the new Omnicron variant.
