Guangzhou Restaurant Review: Project B

The Place

Tucked away behind the Sofitel Guangzhou Sunrich, Project B is one of the newer burger joints to open up in town. Although small in size, Project B offers outdoor seating (barring any bad weather) along the canal for a pretty chill place to eat and drink.

project-b-1.jpgOwner Marcus Wen tells us the ‘B’ in Project B stands for burgers and beer, a simple concept that we can all get behind. Wen is also involved with other food projects like Beer City in Haizhu district.

The Food

Project B’s menu offers ample burger and chicken sandwich options to boot. What sets the burgers apart is the inspiration taken from southeast Asian and other international cuisines. We try the Pad Krapow burger (RMB39.8) and King George chicken sandwich (RMB29.8) and find both to be satisfying meals – and at a great value. The Pad Krapow burger has the truly authentic flavors of Thailand with basil, spicy chili and garlic sauteed with minced beef. Topped with an egg, you can’t go wrong with this order.

As for the King George chicken sandwich, the tender fillet is marinated in Louisiana seasoning giving it a special kick. The sandwich is topped with American cheese and a bed of veggies.

Foodies can also find other creations like foie gras (RMB78.8) and durian (RMB58.8) burgers that look enticing to try. (If you like foie gras or durian, that is…) Wen tells us to expect the menu to change frequently with their goal to keep customers tasting new burger creations. Apparently, Bob’s Burgers does exist and it’s in Tianhe district.

Expect a wide range of craft beers in the fridge upon arrival, from hazy IPAs to stouts, making for an ideal companion with any meal.

The Vibe

While seating is available at Project B, there’s no denying that the shop is mainly focused on delivery and takeout. Covering much of the Tianhe area (and even our office in Taojin), the shop dishes out a large quantity of meals daily from opening to close. Although somewhat off the beaten path, the shop faces out onto a wide canal and has plenty of outdoor seating for a late night burger and beer.

Promotion!

Project B is offering an exclusive 50% discount on burgers for That’s Guangzhou readers from now until the end of November. Simply give Marcus Wen a call (199 2584 6845) before heading to the shop and mention That’s Guangzhou to enjoy this big discount. Patrons can also expect other daily discounts on various menu items.

Open daily 7pm-12.30am (dine In), 10.30-12.30am (delivery), see listing for Project B.
