The French consul general in Guangzhou, Siv Leng Chhuor, celebrated France’s National Day on July 14 with a speech about the continued Franco-Chinese friendship and cooperation. In her speech, she noted that given the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the French consulate resolved not to host a public event this year to celebrate Bastille Day, as an act of solidarity with the victims of the virus and the countries that continue to struggle with the outbreak. Last year, the French Consulate General hosted 600 guests at the Grand Hyatt to celebrate France’s National Day. This year, the consulate produced a video to celebrate the ongoing relationship between the two countries. (Nous souhaitons aussi à nos voisins français une joyeuse fête de la Bastille.)
