Guangzhou is an incredibly diverse city, with migrants from around China and the world calling the metropolis home. Unfortunately, the global COVID-19 outbreak has made living in the city slightly, well, more complicated.
In an effort to address the rise of xenophobia in Guangzhou over the past couple months, the folks at Global Friendship have launched the ‘We Are One Guangzhou’ campaign. The purpose of the campaign is to have people share their experiences and provide constructive suggestions to help Guangzhou move beyond this period in a more united way.
“I think the government and public authorities should use flyers, TV and screens to promote ‘No Discrimination,’ ‘Solidarity’ and ‘Every race is equal’ to help people understand the pandemic better,” reads feedback from one submitter. Another writes, “There should be more activities to share each other’s cultures and understand one another more deeply.”
