On Thursday, the Guangdong Ministry of Education released new staggered start dates, with some students returning to the fray by the end of this month.
According to a WeChat post on the ministry’s official account, students in Grade 9 and Grade 12 are the first allowed to return on April 27. From May 11 onwards, the remaining grades in middle and high schools, as well as primary schools, will be able to return in stages to avoid large crowds. The specific return date for each school is dependent upon their disease control and prevention plans and public health and safety conditions.
As for kindergarteners, preschoolers and special education students, return dates are still being confirmed. The ministry noted that training centers should not be launching any offline teaching activities prior to students returning to school.
Universities, colleges, technical institutes and secondary vocational schools can prepare to have students from their graduating classes return after May 11. Depending on each schools’ disease control and prevention readiness, among other factors, remaining students can return the following week (May 18) in stages to avoid mass crowding.
Teachers will be able to return to their schools one week prior to students. The ministry says that measures will be taken so everyone will have a smooth, orderly and safe return to school.
