Mon, Jan 6: Aurélie Dupont

Paris Opera Ballet’s starry ballerina Aurélie Dupont will visit Guangzhou with an elite ballet squad to stage a 10-program performance. A wonder of France’s ballet scene, Dupont has been in the role of lead dancer of the world-renowned ballet troupe since the 1990s. Ballet appreciators can catch this all-star lineup representing the creme de le creme in the realm of ballet at Guangzhou Opera House.

Tue, Jan 7: Cantonese Opera Screening
Having been active on stage across the Middle Kingdom for 45 years, Cantonese opera maven Ding Fan is well known. A total of eight programs will be screened at this event as a shout-out to Ding’s legendary career. Come for an evening to bear witness to this grand Cantonese theater tradition.

Thu-Sun, Jan 9-12: Blue Man Group

Blue Man Group is bringing their wildly popular and award-winning production to Guangzhou once again. Having performed for almost 30 years, Blue Man Group’s shows have been witnessed by more than 35 million audience members in over 15 countries. Presenting a synthesis of comedy, theater, rock and dance, the highly engaging performances combine science, music and vibrant visual effects to provide audiences with a fully immersive audio-visual experience.

Sat, Jan 11: Neun Welten

Neun Welten, meaning ‘nine worlds’ in German, are a German musical group that incorporates instrumental, acoustic, traditional and dark folk into their music. Although composed of dark folk, their melodies are dreamy, playful and incorporate classical elements. Their 2017 album, The Sea I’m Diving In, has been described by Sputnik music as a theatrical album and “vast, elegantly experimental and cool as hell.”

Sun, Jan 12: Pop-up Book Swap

Partake in the action at this pop-up book swap event organized by Los Angeles native Michelle Myra. Hosted at The Strand Beer Café in Wuyang Cun, participants are able to bring as many as 10 books (in good condition) of any language and genre for exchange. Language-learning books, periodicals and magazines won’t be accepted at this book-exchange, so grab that novel you read ages ago and join in the fun. For more information, click here.
