Thu, Nov 28: Brazilian Film Festival

This year’s Brazilian Film Festival is arriving in Guangzhou on Thursday, offering cinemagoers a wide range of Brazilian movies, including Invisible Life, a Cannes Film Festival winner and contender for the Best Foreign Film at the next Oscars. Click here for more information about the film fest.

Fri-Sat, Nov 29-30: Tiger Tale

Barrowland Ballet are bringing their acclaimed sensory adventure from the UK to Guangzhou this week. The family-friendly show follows the adventures of a troubled family who have their lives unexpectedly invaded by a tiger. The show is a wondrous display of sounds, colors and explosive dance moves.

Fri-Sat, Nov 29-30: Notre-Dame de Paris by TNT Theatre

The UK’s TNT Theatre brings their stage adaptation of Victor Hugo’s classic Gothic romance to Guangzhou. Set in Paris in the late Middle Ages, the novel, which is better known to some by its English name, The Hunchback of Notre-Dame, tells the ill-fated love story of Esmeralda and the hunchback Quasimodo. See it live at Xinghai Concert Hall.

Sat, Nov 30: Guangzhou Santa Pub Crawl

Saturday, November 30 will be far from a ‘Silent Night’ in Guangzhou, as the 16th annual Guangzhou Santa Pub Crawl returns to the city. Arguably the city’s hottest holiday event, the Guangzhou Santa Pub Crawl is one of Canton’s largest and best-attended pub crawls, with over 300 attendees last year! Tickets for the pub crawl are available at Rebel Rebel and Hooley’s.

Sat, Nov 30: Yi-Gather Meetup: One Couple, Two Cultures
The theme of this Saturday’s Yi-Gather Meetup is ‘One Couple, Two Cultures.’ The event features a total of five speakers giving short talks on the subject of intercultural relationships. If the topic tickles your fancy, come to the inspiring space of Yi-Gather Community in Ximenkou and explore how romance comes about between two people from different cultural backgrounds.

This year’s Strawberry Music Festival features a vast array of musicians ranging from sought-after hip-hoppers to ethnic singers. Highlight acts include Chinese independent musician Pu Shu, rapper Tizzy T, Danish electronic music duo Blue Foundation, British indie rock band Swim Deep and more.

Sat-Sun, Nov 30-Dec 1: Craft Beer and Music Fest
Everyone is invited to Sihaicheng in Guangzhou’s Panyu district to celebrate this fun two-day festival, which starts on Saturday. The inaugural Craft Beer and Music Fest is sure to be a great way to spend the weekend with family and friends. We’d like to extend a big thanks to the kind folks in the brewing industry for coming together to create this exciting beer fest, and giving attendees the opportunity to enjoy ice-cold brews, delicious food and a range of music, from local bands and school performances to DJ sets.

Dec 1: Cecile McLorin Salvant

The closing act of the Guangzhou Jazz Festival will feature the young and gifted jazz diva Cecile McLorin Salvant, who has won three Grammy Awards in just four years. Since her arrival on the scene, the world of jazz has been enthralled by the 28-year-old’s remarkable talent. You can catch her performance on Sunday.
