The 2019 World Music Festival is set to rock Foshan’s recreational district of Lingnan Tiandi once again.
From Saturday to Sunday, September 7 to 8, this year’s edition will bring together six dynamite Chinese bands, who hail from contrastingly different regions of China, to perform original tunes that showcase their backgrounds as well as their talents.
Xinjiang band Ékram produce a fusion of Uyghur folk music and modern jazz. Their music strikes a chord with audiences as the lead singer’s unique, near-perfect vocals render listeners utterly amazed.

Guizhou’s six-piece Shennamu are known for their unorthodox jams, combining traditional Guizhou music with classic rock.

Hailing from Yunnan, Sanduojiao perform with traditional instruments, enlivening old, forgotten Yunnan tunes while also adding Western instruments such as the saxophone, guitar and flute. This unique band sings in a Chinese minority dialect, Mandarin, English and French.

The sound of Mongolian band Suutan boasts a mix of the mysterious khoomei, a singing technique unique to the steppe folks, and rock music, which helps to forge their own notable style.

Instrumental rock band Tation are native to the Tibetan Plateau, and have a knack for blending Chinese folk music with rock, electronics and experimental music.

Kazakh band Nan is another group of musicians passionate about producing ethnically rich music. Their heavy metal is gracefully touched by the inclusion of Kazakh melodies.

During the two-day concert, music workshops and a flea market will also be set up to entertain audiences.
