Chronicling the story of the Cantonese people’s struggle against foreign forces invading Canton during the first Opium War, Dancing Lion tells a story of broken families, separated lovers and unyielding courage. The creation of this award-winning dance drama took five years, but the result is an uncompromising work that will amaze audiences.

Wed, Aug 7: More Than Love Concert

On Chinese Valentine’s Day, a concert will be staged for lovey-dovey couples at Xinghai Concert Hall, featuring a moving medley of movie scores like ‘Yesterday Once More,’ classics such as The Beatles’ ‘Hey Jude’ as well as some of MJ’s hit songs. These will all be performed by instrumental band Music Fan Classical, who boasts a contemporary classical style.

Thu-Sun, Aug 8-12: Matilda the Musical

Winner of seven Oliver Awards and five Tony Awards, Matilda the Musical is simply sensational. It was adapted from the namesake book by popular children’s literature author Roald Dahl, who also wrote Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. With music and lyrics by musical genius Tim Minchin, Matilda is as entertaining as its story is captivating.

Sat, Aug 10: InterNations Mediterranean Summer Bash

Concerts get cancelled from time to time, it’s just the way it is. Bands know it, organizers know it and fans certainly know it (thanks a lot, Celine Dion). Four rockin’ bands – Pictured Resort, Teenage Riot, Yourboyfriendsucks! and Cheesemind – are set to play at T:union this Saturday. However, the organizers have flat out stated that this concert is prone to cancellation. While this would make for an absolute blast of a show, we must warn you – don’t get your hopes up.

Sat, Aug 10: Rythmo! by Samajam

Created with the little ones in mind, Rythmo! is a highly interactive musical performance. Each child and parent will receive drumsticks, whirly tubes or an African djembe drum, and will be led by talented musicians to create something extraordinary. Here’s an amazing fact: Roughly 6,000 kids participated in one of the group’s previous shows. So bring the family and have yourselves a hell of a time.

Sun, Aug 11: Swan Lake by Russian State Ballet

Over the last 20 years, the Russian State Ballet Theater has remained one of the leading ballet companies in Russia, enjoying international acclaim. Its repertoire includes masterpieces of classical ballets as well as some of the world’s finest examples of modern choreography.
