These Supine Subway Riders Capture Our Monday Feeling Perfectly

Can’t find a seat on the subway? Well maybe it’s time to take a leaf out of these passengers’ book.

Multiple young women were recently spotted lying down on the floor in a subway carriage in Guangzhou. Video footage of the event shows at least three girls sprawled out on the (we can nearly assume) dirty ground, occupying a large chunk of subway real estate while riding on Line 5. Other clips show at least one other girl sitting nearby, glued to her phone and chatting away.

Watch below to see the short clip of these girls giving zero f**ks (VPN off):

While we’d deeply disagree with this kind of display if it was during our morning or evening commute, we can’t help but laugh as other passengers’ turn a blind eye. The response online has been a mixed bag, with some calling the girls’ behavior “indecent” while others claiming it may have just been too damn hot.

Guangzhou Metro responded to the video via Weibo, writing:

“Turning the subway carriage into your personal bed – we’ve seen it all. You needn’t be able to recite Guangzhou’s City Rail Transit Rider Code Article 12, Paragraph 6 to know that this type of behavior is prohibited. After receiving feedback from passengers, staff members boarded the train and stopped and educated [them]. Everyone is welcome to provide feedback to the staff, and if necessary, you can contact the driver by pressing the emergency button in the carriage.”

That’s called Guangzhou Metro to inquire about the reason behind the spectacle. A staff member declined to comment, only alluding to the possibility that it’s just how people act sometimes.

In the grand scheme of things, this is far from the worst thing we’ve seen take place on a subway. From a bomb hoax in Shenzhen to a revealed phallus in Canton and even the slaughtering of a live animal in a Chongqing station (not taking place on the actual subway), one thing is certain – the underground is another world.
