That’s Guangzhou takes a look at the best gigs of the weekend.
Fri, Jul 12: Amazing Show @ Mao Livehouse

Hailing from Taiwan, experimental rock band Amazing Show compose, record and perform original music with many of their self-invented instruments – the first and only of its kind found on the island (that we know, anyway). With humorous lyrics, their songs usually mock romantic relationships taking place in the big city. Check out Amazing Show at Mao Livehouse this week.
Fri, Jul 12, 8.30pm; RMB100. Mao Livehouse. See event listing. Tickets.
Sat, Jul 13: Panic Worm @ 191 Space

Summer brings out all of our hidden desires, but lucky for all of you indie fans, Wuhan band Panic Worm is here to fulfill those desires for you. After breaking out in 2018 with the release of the record Elusive Magic, the group is back with another fantastic release in new track ‘New Medium.’ Panic Worm is a band that strives to produce a uniquely cultish, post-punk aesthetic. Their songs give off the vibe of romantic sadness, presenting this emotion in the form of rigid, seemingly serious yet outlandish compositions. Panic Worm’s live shows are a must-see for music geeks who enjoy things that are out-of-the box or slightly unconventional.
Sat Jul 13, 8pm; RMB80 presale, RMB100 door. 191 Space. See event listing. Tickets.
Sun, Jul 14: Ukebox @ Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall

British ukulele quintet Ukebox started off their career at open mic nights and bars in Liverpool, before building up a reputation for their tight vocal harmonies and special renditions of famous songs. Touring the world this year with their original music, as well as covers of popular songs such as ‘Can’t Take My Eyes Off You’ and ‘Hotel California,’ Ukebox are slated to performance at Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall this month.
Sun Jul 14, 7.30pm; RMB100-380. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall. See event listing. Tickets.
