UPDATE (Jun 29, 2019 10.55pm CST): A 35-year old man from Yunnan province has been detained by Huangpu police after a stabbing on Thursday morning. The investigation is still underway.

On Thursday around 9am, a man in Huangpu district stabbed a local security team member (aka community patrol member).

The incident arose after members of the Huangpu Luogang Jie security joint defense team were on patrol and identified a suspicious man near Changping market on Changling Lu.

After authorities approached the man, he stabbed one of the team members with a pair of scissors and fled the scene.

Huangpu police are currently searching for the suspect. The police are calling on local residents to call 110 if they have any information.

Netizens have drawn attention to the fact that authorities have not provided a description of the perpetrator. One person commented under a post by the Huangpu Police Force, “The least you can do is provide what [the perpetrator] looks like, is he fat, short, tall or slim?”
