A zone of around 25 feet above the Earth's surface is generally accepted by boffins as the flight boundary layer for the little blighters – where wind speed is equivalent to maximum insect flight speed. But if they are prepared to throw caution to the wind, and let it carry them where it will?

Well, bad news, as mosquitoes have been collected at 1,000 feet, which is almost two-thirds of the way up the Shanghai World Financial Center. All of which means if the wind is against you, you’re a tasty target 100 stories high (although around the 20th floor seems to be their limit).
