One hundred and fifty-seven years ago the Mexican Army won a battle against the French, giving future generations the perfect excuse to party in kind-of remembrance.
These celebrations extend all the way to Guangzhou, and before you worry about where to go or what to do, here are some events we’ve compiled for your perusal:

13Factories
13Factories is getting in on the fiesta, offering ‘Fac-style’ Mexican specials and RMB20 tequila shots throughout the month of May.

Bandidos
Expect a proper fiesta on May 5 at Bandidos. The Mexican cantina will be serving carnita, hojaldra, Jarritos (RMB18) and Michelada (RMB28), and guests can take a whack at a pinata while enjoying live mariachi.

Gail’s
In the spirit of Cinco de Mayo, Gail’s will serve up a themed buffet from May 4-5, dishing out salsa and chips, cheese quesadillas, fajitas, chicken taquitos, enchiladas, Tex bowls, tacos and churros, among other Mexican culinary treats.
Sat-Sun May 4-5, 6.30pm; RMB198 for buffet, price includes a welcome drink. Gail’s American Cuisine & Bar.

MiCasa
Celebrate this special holiday at MiCasa, one of the few Mexican restaurants in town where free tequila shots, gifts and a live mariachi band await.
Sat-Sun May 4-5, 8-10pm. MiCasa Mexican Restaurant by Bocca.
Tristan’s CalMex
Head over to Tristan’s on May 5 and go to town on their all-you-can-eat taco buffet. The restaurateur is offering a selection of tacos; choose from chicken, pork, veggie, chorizo or beef. Enjoy buy-one-get-one-free Dos Equis and Coronas as well as margaritas (RMB30) and Agavales Tequila shots (RMB20).
Sat-Sun May 4-5, 5-11pm; RMB75 for all-you-can-eat buffet. Tristan’s CalMex Restaurant and Bar.
Zapata’s
A Cinco de Mayo countdown party will be held on May 4 at Zapata’s, where guests can expect Olmec frozen margaritas (RMB55) and free face painting. Meanwhile, a live band will keep you dancing late into the night.
